We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mariah Eaves. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mariah below.
Mariah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
My husband and I started the very first escape room on the Central coast of Ca in 2015 a few months after we got married. At the time not many people had heard of escape rooms and we went to one in LA. On the way home my husband said “I bet we could make one of these.” To which I responded, “I bet you can!”
After 6 months of building and self funding on our personal credit card we opened our doors and it was a huge success! We built a total of 4 rooms in 2 locations and happily sold it at the end of 2017. We’re happy to report it’s going strong and still known as the best escape room around!
In Feb 2020 we started our next business, Bare Heart Boudoir. Yes, 6 weeks before the pandemic. At that time no one really knew what was going to happen but we moved ahead. One client at a time and word of mouth spread about what we were offering. Business quickly picked up and by the first full yeah 2021 we were making over $100K. Now 4.5 years later, we are ready for a change. We are currently in the process of selling Bare Heart and looking forward to another break and some time off to travel. We keep being asked what we are doing next and to be honest… We don’t know! We just know that we put all of our love time and attention into what we do so we start our new business. We would like to devote that time just like we had in our other two businesses
Mariah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My background is hospitality and banking. After starting our first business with my husband 2015 I left my corporate position in February 2016 and became the customer service/social media manager of all businesses.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my business partner when I was volunteering at a drop zone and he was the skydiving instructor. I loved his energy the way he lived life. He had been an entrepreneur since a young age, and we quickly realized we were a darn good team together! Now I’m happy to say it’s been, 10 years of marriage and business success!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I currently have a great following on Facebook. Once we started our boudoir business, I started a ladies only Facebook group. It started out with word-of-mouth and quickly the word spread. Within four years we’ve reached over 2200 ladies in this community and the group is active with over 1000 numbers being active.
I purchased a Facebook group marketing guide and then tweaked it to make it my own. I’ve made the space online a positive space in the safe space where people can share their stories and connect with one another. It is one of the proudest parts of this business that we have created!
