We recently connected with Randalyn Lauren and have shared our conversation below.
Randalyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I actually remember a customer that was in high school reaching out to me via email. It was one of the most professional emails, that I have ever seen. She wrote me an email about her passion for make up and how much she loved the brand. She continued telling me a little bit about herself and her goals, and ultimately asked if she could work for me. I was so inspired by how she conducted herself via email, I sent her words of encouragement to follow her dreams and to continue with her education. I ended up sending her the entire “city girl collection” in which she was from. To show my appreciation and my admiration to be so goal driven at a young age. She was such a nice young lady. She WAS grateful that I responded to the email and could not believe how kind I was to send her products and advice. It is the small acts of kindness, such as this that make me love meeting customers. Without my customers there would not be a Florida Girl Cosmetics. I am beyond appreciative and will always make sure to pour in and to support the youth.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am the owner of Florida Girl Cosmetics. Florida Girl is a makeup brand dedicated to the beautiful world of Florida. There are 6 different city girl collections. Miami Girl, Tally Girl, Orlando Girl, Tampa Girl, Ft Lauderdale Girl and Jacksonville Girl. Each collection has aneyeshadow palette that is named after each city. Each eyeshadow is named after different neighborhoods or suburbs of the city. Every collection has their own lash strips, liquid mattes, lip glosses and lipsticks named after the area codes or the city. I also, sell lipliners, eyeliner/lash adhesive, mascara, and highlighter and blush palettes. All of the following items can be bought thru our e-commerce and all of the lashes and some of the lipglosses can be bought at our vending machine locations.
I started this business in May of 2020. I had the idea to start selling lashes, and then I started making lipglosses and from there I started selling eyeshadow palettes. My business has since grown from then, I added the Ft Lauderdale Girl collection in June 2021 and currently expanding the collection. My ultimate goal is to have a store front, where customers can shop and have their makeup done, but for right now Im enjoying being able to vend cosmetics at malls. I currently have a vending machine located in Governor Square Mall in Tallahassee, FL since March 2021. Tallahassee was the first place that I wanted to place a vending machine at because I am FAMU alumna and the girls up there are always representing where they are from in Florida.
I am proud of the feedback and the love that I have received from having this brand. I enjoy meeting new people and hearing them say ‘I’m a Florida girl too!” That is exactly what I wanted from my brand! I wanted girls to represent where they are from or the city they love and look cute and have fun while doing so. I have met some amazing people, and have even collaborated with some companies and I will say I have made some great connections and memories.
The most important thing that I need people to know is that Florida Girl Cosmetics is only getting started. We will continue to grow and continue to represent all of our Florida Girls and continue to remain being a fun and trendy brand.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think that social media platforms such as instagram have been beneficial. I run ads and collaborate with different Florida influencers to get the brand out there. I try to have girls from different parts of the state promote the city in which they live in or where they are from. Also, hash tags! I can not believe how many people say they have found my instagram page using hash tags! But overall the biggest thing is to stay committed post everyday on your timeline and story. People are always watching!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I actually make sure that on our official instagram page we try our hardest to respond to customers when a comment is left or even a reaction to our one of our stories. To me the clients are the brand, I love seeing how people represent Florida and put a look together . i am always excited to see and hear about customers reaction to a product. Most recently, I have been trying to make sure that we do more sales to show our customers that are loyal that we appreciate them and even give some new Florida Girls the opportunity to try out the brand.
