We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nichole Campuzano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Nichole, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?
I think that the workplace can be a place for employers and employees to recognize and appreciate diversity. I have advanced in my professional endeavors by pursuing higher education. It is the sacrifice you make to make advancements. I think it’s important in the interview and hiring process to evaluate the individual’s journey taken to secure the position. In addition, whether the individual has demonstrated the desire to be in the position they’re applying. I have been given compliments by customers in my current position about my demeanor. That’s what inclusivity means to me; recognizing one another’s strengths and giving positive feedback to offer recognition. This motivates teams and builds culture within the workplace.

Nichole, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Nichole Campuzano. I am the founder of Nichole’s Voice, a 501(c)(3), founded in 2021. It is a community based nonprofit for Spinal Cord Injury survivors. The nonprofit’s mission is to share personal experiences to help one another grow and flourish despite the challenges post injury.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think that building a reputation consists of networking. When you link with people you’re building your brand’s foundation to cultivate a honest reputation within your community and beyond. This creates your image and leaves an echo that reminds people of your voice.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is a testament of survival. I’ve received judgment as a Latina woman with a disability and stigmas that people have in regards to both. It’s human nature to categorize people and bring ignorance to the table, but it’s listening and an open mind that build new ways of thinking. That creates a breeding ground for education. It’s respecting one’s journey as we each experience low and highs that reflect our ability to rise to any occasion. I have and will. Therefore, I am an illustration of resilience.
