We were lucky to catch up with Rocio Perez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rocio, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Yes! I had a client who was a first time home buyer, he came to me wanting to purchase his first home. He was nervous and wasn’t sure what to do. Right then, I knew I needed to help him and not bombard him with a list of things. I connected him with one of my preferred loan officers who immediately knew how to address my client. Thankfully everything went smoothly on that side. Where it became tricky was his budget, but I kept asking him questions and listened to the cues. After seeing 3 houses I understood then that it was best to take a different course of action because the things he first mentioned didn’t align with what he truly wanted. So I sent him different types of homes and instantly he knew he wanted one of the homes I sent to him. We went to go see the home and everything was marked off of his list in a home. All this time he wanted a house where he did not have to make any updates, and I found him a 2022 home in a very nice community where they were still building homes. I immediately knew he was going to have a house with equity, brand new flooring, roof, A/C all the big ticket items that he did not want to spend on in the first few years. This was such a success for me because his budget was low and I had to use my resources and listening cues to understand truly what my client needed in order to see him happy.
Rocio, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born and raised in Houston TX, and a proud Houstonian because of its diversity in people, food, and how we have the best (in my opinion) baseball team go ‘Stros! I love the Lord, my husband family, and friends. I have two beautiful boxers, I like to travel and learn history and I love to try different food! I received my bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies EC-6 Bilingual and taught for a year. Although I loved my students I wanted to explore a different course of career. My husband suggested Real Estate which by then we had not bought our first home. I began to look into it and found it to be quite interesting. As I was taking my classes to test for my license my husband and I were in the process of purchasing our first home right next door to my parents which was not on the market. We did not have an agent, so it was a bit overwhelming because the process was unfamiliar to us. Thankfully we were able to get the home, but I knew then that Real Estate is almost, if not the same as teaching, I was just teaching and guiding adults now. I knew I could use the skills that I learned as a teacher in the Real Estate world. So I got my license and hit it off strong in my first year of Real Estate.
What sets me apart from others is that I listen to the needs of my clients, pay attention to detail, and have open communication with my clients. These three things are very important to use because it helps guide the client smoothly from beginning to end. I help all kinds of clients from first-time home buyers to their second, and third homes and I also help clients sell their homes. I also like to educate the Hispanic community because often they have a misconception that they can’t get a house because of XYZ reason. When I educate my clients about ways they can achieve buying their dream home you can see in their eyes that the sky is the limit! What I am most proud of is being able to roll with the punches, and having a flexible mindset that there are many outlets to help and serve others. I want my future clients to know that I love guiding and facilitating my client’s real estate needs. I go above and beyond for my clients until we get results.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that just because you have a career already set does not mean you can make a change. And I say that for people my age. I am 32 and when I made the career change I was 30, as I mentioned I was a teacher and taught for a year and truly I thought it was something I was going to do for the rest of my life. I salute all of the teachers by the way, it is truly one of the most noble careers anyone can do. But it was not meant for me and it was a hard pill to swallow at the time because for many years that is what I wanted to do. So I was afraid at the time to make the change but I knew that if I didn’t at least explore the possibility of changing my career I would always have the what if moments and I refused to live that way. So anyone out there who is in their 30’s, 40’s 50’s whatever age may be and you’ve always wanted to make a change for themselves whether it was a career or anything about their life. Do it! what is the worst that could happen?
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes! I have two favorite ones and they are “Atomic Habits” by James Clear and “Sell it Like Serhant” by Ryan Serhant. These two books have helped and developed my career. Both books provide so many gems that can be applied to Real Estate every day. Ryan Serhant is someone who I can relate to in many ways, which he opened my eyes to greater possibilities. And James Clear refers to those small habits that can change the course of your day-to-day habits. These two books have become essential to my life and I re-read them because I always find new things that I might’ve not paid attention to in the past.
