We recently connected with Stardust Sonata and have shared our conversation below.
Stardust, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Our most meaningful project to date is our recently released debut album, Create The Sun.
The album is a blend of spontaneous creation and ideas some of us have had floating around for a long time. To be able to bring our own individual material, styles, and influences to create this very collaborative project as a band was a thrill. The result is an album we are incredibly proud of.
In many ways this album is the band’s artistic sun. That is, it’s an energy source to fuel our souls and a light to set the course for our future creative endeavors.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Stardust Sonata was born in the midst of the worldwide down time that came in 2020. Our members, Dillon Byrd (guitar), Elgin Nation (vocals), Jason Watkins (bass), and Devon Richir (drums), were connected by various past projects but had never all worked together in this lineup. Our songs are fun, energetic, and most importantly, music that we want to experience.
As Stardust Sonata, we are combining elements of blues, funk, metal and garage rock, to craft our own take on guitar-driven rock and roll. And we’re having a damn good time doing it!
In our short existence, we have made our presence felt in the Atlanta scene. Our band has shared the stage with national acts as well as local favorites in venues big and small in our area. Now we are set on bringing our sound to the rest of the world.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Music can do many things. It can entertain, of course, but also it can inspire, it can move you and it can unite. We can’t control when any of those things happen for our listeners, but we can strive to craft the best music that we can, and that is our primary goal. The quest for music that pushes us technically and stylistically, but more than anything, music that we love to play and hear, is what underlies every creative decision we make as a band.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for us is our collaborative process. Brainstorming, writing, and creating new material is a thrill like no other. When we’re creating new songs, each practice session yields a glimpse of new musical suns on the horizon.
