We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lawrence Ervits a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lawrence, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I would absolutely have started this career path sooner. I would say In the last 5-8 years of my life, or so, I have started settling into this persona who is fully embracing his full potential and is willing to take a lot more calculated risks than in my younger days. Having the right person in your corner fully supporting you has certainly been a big contributing factor, and little by little I have been steered toward my current position. I only wish this had happened a lot sooner in my life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
It did take an unfortunate set of circumstances to bring me to where I am now. It all stemmed from COVID. I unfortunately had to stay home at that time. And on top of all the health concerns and fears we were all having, I also had to deal with a lot of anxiety from completely being cut off from the outside world. I am a very friendly extrovert. I love talking and interacting with people, and suddenly I just had these 4 walls to talk to. My wife fortunately was working but that really did just leave me to my own. In trying to cope with the isolation even further, my wife and I thought why not try social Media. I love fragrances and owned many, so why not try to create a page for fragrance content. That allowed me to talk about something I absolutely love, fragrances, and it kept me connected to the outside world. It completely made the whole situation more bearable, and a few years later, here I am, still going strong and I am making a full living off of what I love best, talking to people about fragrances.
I decided that I wanted to stand apart from the usual fragrance reviewers who mostly review mainstream designer fragrances. I branched out into niche and indie. The fragrances I have discovered in the process completely blows the designer fragrances out of the water! They are amazing and so unique, and are of such high quality and the care that goes into the packaging is amazing as well. This was a whole other ball park. I wanted to shed light on these fragrances and share them with the world! Unfortunately, you can’t just go into a mall and sample them. Usually you have to blind buy a full bottle. And then my wife and I thought… let’s sell samples! that way people can try them out before buying the whole bottle. We figure since we both are so familiar with all the fragrances we could even put them in exploratory samplers for a particular situation such as, work, date night, or even seasonal samplers for summer, spring, fall and winter and so many more categories aside from individual decants. This would allow us to share these amazing fragrances with all of my audience.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think it is in the best interest of everyone to support any small business instead of contributing to the non stop growth of these huge conglomerates who do not benefit the people in the slightest. They don’t invest in their communities, and have not actual interaction like we see with small businesses.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The best advice I could give is to do whatever you decide to do, because you love it and you enjoy doing it. Don’t try to be like others. Don’t focus on anyone else’s follower numbers, most big creators buy them anyways. Focus on being you and bringing your unique spin on things.
