Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Serena Billiet. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Serena, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
When imagination is harnessed as a tool, virtually any job can be infused with creativity. Even the most “regular” jobs I’ve held have necessitated some form of creative thinking. However, in response to the question, I would define a regular job as one where you clock in and out, work for someone else, and typically, it’s unrelated to your true passions or hobbies. Ever since I embarked on the journey of starting my own business, engaging in work that fuels my passion and offers a creative outlet, I can’t envision myself doing anything else. The transition from traditional employment to this current role was challenging, but I am immensely grateful for making that decision. I would suggest that anyone with even a slight curiosity should give it a try. There will always be normal jobs to go back to!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ll start off by introducing myself, my names Serena. I grew up in a very small town adjacent to Joshua Tree, CA. The desert has always infused my being with an artistic and spiritual essence. At 19, I acquired a Cosmetology License, Makeup being the primary reason for attending. I explored various avenues in the field, yet never truly felt settled. Throughout this life journey, I studied some art in college and have always identified as a creative individual. I began following Permanent Makeup Artists on social media and was always fascinated by it. One day, I decided to give it a try and obtained my first Microblading Certification. I immediately fell in love with the craft, feeling as if many aspects of my life converged. Thats when Serene Ink was established. ‘Serene’, true to its meaning, was my way of conveying that Permanent Makeup doesn’t have to be bold and pronounced but can be natural and subtle, even serene-like. My approach to Permanent Makeup is buildable. I offer all my services in a two-step process, allowing clients to adapt to their new Permanent Makeup and make any adjustments during a follow-up appointment. Many clients initially fear the idea of semi-permanent facial tattoos, but this method ensures they feel comfortable and inspired to proceed. With currently 6 certifications under my belt, I have no desire to stop learning in PMU.
I offer a range of services including Microblading, Combination Brows, Powder Brows, Lip Blush, Lash Enhancement Eyeliner, Faux Freckles, Tiny Tattoos, and the latest addition, Nano Brows! Additionally, I provide temporary services like Brow Lamination and Tint, as well as Lash Lifts and Tints. These services often introduce clients to the concept of Permanent Makeup or help them discover they have more options than they initially thought.
I am currently located at The Pointed Pearl, an Artisanal Spa in Yucca Valley, CA. The Pointed Pearl is dedicated to empowering our clients by offering a sanctuary for relaxation, rejuvenation, and genuine care. Our services are designed to enhance your natural beauty and promote overall wellness.
What brings me fulfillment in this industry is aiding others in feeling their best and brimming with confidence. With age, I’ve come to understand that this is my true calling in life. I am committed to evolving alongside the beauty industry and its advancing techniques, ensuring my clients are always in excellent hands.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As the primary provider for my 7-year-old daughter, life hasn’t been easy for us. We’ve overcome constant hurdles, and through it all, I’ve remained a spirited and dedicated mom. Enduring continuous double shifts has been essential to sustain us and to maintain the vitality of my business aspirations, so that one day I may furnish my daughter with everything I’ve ever desired for her. My enduring affirmation is to “keep going, it’ll all make sense one day.” and I hope to teach my daughter that with discipline and determination, you can reach your goals, regardless of life’s obstacles.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an artist specializing in cosmetic tattoos, I find the greatest reward in crafting a unique form of beauty for each individual. Clients may come with challenges such as asymmetry, hair loss, or other health issues that hinder their ability to do what they desire or to reclaim what they once had. Utilizing my expertise and artistry to enhance others’ confidence, enabling them to feel assured in their appearance without the stress of applying makeup, is immensely gratifying. It’s all about elevating my clients’ self-esteem.
