Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mia Hall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I’ve been signed with The Hybrid Agency NYC since I was 18. Sean and Rikky have been such a key factor in my journey in the musical theatre industry. Sean connected with me after watching the 2019 Jimmy Awards. I was in the Wicked Medley and I remember singing The Wizard and I thinking, “I wonder who this will reach?” I knew thousands of people were watching live via YouTube or otherwise, but something about that moment felt like somebody important may be watching.
Hybrid Agency is the type you can ask the hard-hitting questions such as, “I sound horrendous today, can I have an extension?” or “I just saw they’re casting… (insert musical here) can you put me in coach?” I have such gratitude for my theatre dads for seeing me for the performer i currently am, and aspire to be.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up in Rochester, NY surrounded by academics, athletics, and the arts. I went to an International Baccalaureate High School and completed the Full IB Diploma Programme. I was offered classes like IB music, (which consisted of two years of performance, composition, and theory) Acting, and Dance. I was what some may call a goody-goody for most of high school, but I wouldn’t change my experience for the world. I was friends with the engineers, runners, band kids, theatre kids, pretty much any kid. And I don’t take my inclusive high school experience for granted.
I decided I wanted to pursue theatre full-time at The Jimmy Awards in 2019. I was a junior in high school and up until that point I thought I wanted to be an algebra or pre-calc teacher. But the intensity of the environment and the feeling of stepping onto a Broadway stage for the first time immediately sold me. I’m now signed to The Hybrid Agency and have had the privilege of performing in regional and off-broadway shows, and I make content on social media surrounding my life as an artist. I create User Generated Content for brands, post covers, vlogs, and whatever silly things my mind can conjure up!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As a neurodivergent creative, I’ve had to personalize the creative process heavily. One of my favorite ways I’ve done so was learning abut mirroring. On days where the anxiety gets too debilitating and I can’t figure out what step to take next, I’ll turn to long-form content like YouTube or podcasts to stay productive. If I’m cooking or eating, I’ll watch a long What I Eat In A Day. If I’m doing my morning skincare, I’ll watch someone’s full self-care routine. If I’m on the train on my way to an audition, I’ll listen to a podcast about something like squashing imposter syndrome! The options are endless and free might I add.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
This is a question I’ve actually asked myself recently, and thinking on it has changed my entire perspective on the entertainment industry, especially theatre. For the longest time I told people my goal was to make people in the audience feel something. As vague as that sounds, it was true. I loved making people smile when I do something particularly tender or effort-driven onstage. I loved seeing people tear up in the tragic moments, because it meant I was successfully displaying the piece of media.
But as I left school and started to audition full-time, I realized that can’t be my sole driving factor, as the audience won’t always be with me. I have to be in it for the cathartic experience it offers me. I have to be in it because some days when I’m super depressed, talking won’t do and I need to sing something soft in my bedroom alone. I have to do it for the high that I give myself when I successfully hold the last note of So Much Better!
