We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alejandro Guerra a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alejandro, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned how to make videos through a variety of different ways, When I first started out and even to this day I watch Youtube. There’s tons of people sharing useful tips and walking through different techniques they use. Another way I learned was by interning at a studio here in town. This gave me hands on experience with industry standard equipment and softwares and exposed me to a lot of different types of video shoots. The last way I learn how to create videos is to actually just start doing it. It sounds obvious but we tend to overthink it and runaway from things we aren’t familiar with at first. This helps you learn what you like to do and help develop your style. Most essential skill I feel like is editing and lighting. These two things can elevate any project regardless on the gear used. The main obstacle that stood in my way was my part time job. I’d be so tired since it was an early morning part time job and most of my work happened at night. I pushed through it constantly reminding myself of my goals and dreams
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into the video production industry through creating small videos that I would post on Youtube documenting certain things about my life. This grew into a passion for creating videos and I now own a video production company that creates social media content for businesses, artists, realtors, and many others. Social media is usually not a big concern for most people and they settle to put out average posts but yet theres millions of untapped potential customers they’re missing out on. That’s where we come in and provide eye catching content that’ll capture the attention of the viewer and also push your brand and vision out to the masses. If you don’t want to deal with social media at all then we also offer social media management where we will post for you, share stories, and sit down with you to strategize a game plan, month to month to keep increasing engagement and attention to your page. I’m proud of what we’ve built so far and the journey this path in life has taken me on. It’s crazy to think I started this when I was 15 when video on social media wasn’t even a thing. I just really like creating the best way I knew I could and now I get to do that surrounded by very dope creatives
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met our cofounder, Omar Aguilar, at a church that I started going to when I was 15 years old. He would sing on stage and I did a lot of the production work behind the scenes. We started getting to know each other and found that we had a lot in common. I would help out on some of his music video sets over the next couple of years and one day he asked if I could put some content together of a trip he had just went on overseas. That same Friday we knocked out the vlog and found out that working together was super easy. We started making videos for his personal brand for a couple of years creating social media content, music videos, and much more. Last year we sat down and went over the idea of creating a video production business and agreed it was a great idea. We both work to our strengths when tackling projects and make sure the end product is as great as we can provide to our clients.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think non-creatives wont understand the passion behind why we do what we do. There’s a lot of late nights, early mornings, and weekends, that will be spent working towards building in your craft. We all start somewhere but to me it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey and growth you go through while pursuing your passion as a creative
