We were lucky to catch up with Abel Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Abel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My life long DREAM as a child was to be an artist. I knew when I was 6yrs old I wanted to create. My vision, creativity and faith has gotten me through every obstacle that has unfolded in my life. From humble beginnings of las cruces, New Mexico to the big city of DFW has been nothing less than a roller coaster ride. The biggest aspect of my company /career is the people and how my art interacts with them. I have a pretty cool niche of taking my clients ideas and turning them into reality in my very own specific visual language. From working with professional athletes and teams to major brands and endorsements deals, i feel very humbled and greatful to create. Given the fact that 7 years prior I was living in my car in Dallas. JERIMIAH 29:11

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I Was obsessed with comics books and old school graffiti. I grew up in the late 8os. So I had many musical and artistic influences. I used my love of my culture in las cruces nm and started blending fine art with an urban style.. you can find my art all over the world. I have a very supportive following in Dallas, Atx, San Antonio, Denver Colorado, Santa Fe nm and my beloved las cruces. My brand is me. Abelgarciadesigns. I have lived such an interesting life that has really influenced the art I produce. I’m constantly learning and attempting to master my craft. Coining the phrase “Whysleepwhenyoucanpaint” you will find me in my studio constantly creating. I specialize in fine art, murals and sneaker design. Take a look at my website abelgarciadesigns.net my ig is very active as well @abelgarciadesins.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
There is so much I can type about but what I really wanted to explain is as a creator or entrepreneur, the process is where you should always focus your attention because that’s going to keep you grounded and focused. Improvement is so very crucial. I tell you this from learning the hard way. I used to think that one great month or year would transform my business but it takes so much more. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is never get comfortable. When you get comfortable you loose your edge and momentum. Your state of comfort will very quickly turn into your prison. Always be improving.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes, the art industry is a very interesting world. At times I would have many new clients and many loyal collectors as well but the biggest thing I had to navigate was where my art and attention was taking me. At times I just wanted to paint in my studio but I spent more time performing at live events. And of course all of that change when Covid hit. Understanding how to navigate in certain situations (Covid) that are out of your control will give you a great understanding to adjust to clients needs and challenges you to recreate the language of how you market yourself and help your company grow.
