We caught up with the brilliant and insightful FranShay a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
FranShay, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My dad always pushed me hard as a kid in music and at that time i didn’t really understand. So after growing up having multiple occupations where I could never be settled at or just like completely comfortable at , I took a leap of faith and started putting together my own jam sessions. Work ethic is a major factor of music and I learned a lot about that after hosting my own shows. Everything that my dad planted in me started to make sense as I got older and was better understanding as to why he was so consistent with my craft. My first album dropped in 2020 and it made we wanna keep going , pursue my music more, & becoming successful at what it is I love to do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My entire family is full of music , so its in me! lol I’ve been singing since a child at church, school choirs , graduations , etc. I’m mainly a R&B artist but I’m pretty versatile, I like to tell stories in my music where others can relate and see that they are not alone in some situations. Relationships, friends, love , and everything else under that category are some of my main topics. I’m proud of how far I have came from when I first started recording up until now. My craft is set to give a mellow vibe and just simply be enjoyable to all listeners.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
GIVING UP! I quickly had to unlearn GIVING UP! That is not an option and should never be an option. I was so easy to get discouraged at one point and just drop the ball. After hard meditation and really locking in with my craft , I realized giving up is for people that don’t really want it. You got to have that drive to want to overcome any failures and not let your failures become your downfall, but rather let them be your motivation to keep going. I’ve to ‘The Voice’ and got rejected. I’ve sent music over to record companies and was denied. I’ve submitted several tracks to shows and was denied. For about 2 years after that , I dropped the ball. One day I received an invitation to submit my music for another project and I was hesitant but I did it, Approximately 4 days later, I received an email back that not 1 of my tracks but all 3 tracks that i submitted were chosen for the TV show that now airs live on Tubi TV ( On 2 Da Next). I have had 2 successful R&B jam session nights that I hosted. Never give up and use your downfalls as inspiration.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
MY MOM. She has carried me through storms and any other kind of weather. Mom has supported me with anything I’ve ever wanted to do. I want to be able to show my appreciation to her and continue to do so cause ill never have enough thank yous’ to give her. A few others of my immediate family as well has supported me tremendously throughout this journey/process. When my dad passed he was the closest thing to success that the family had at the time in music. My job is to pick up where my dad left off and carry it on out for the rest of us. The seed that’s planted in me can only grow if I allow it to. I wanna use my talent to show others this can be done from little to nothing and excuses are just what they are, excuses.
