We were lucky to catch up with Paula Johnson Hutchinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Paula, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
The Stiletto Talks LLC was a risk. I had no idea that creating an event for Black women would evolve. into a true safe space. I made a decision to just do it. We started with 13 attendees. Fast forward to 2024 and we have had over 500 and counting.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The Stiletto Talks LLC was born in the salon. Women were transitioning in the community out of the workplace and into entrepreneurship. It started small but it was an instant success. I made the decision to keep going. Today , we have a podcast, magazine and accelerator program. I knew that I wanted women of color to be empowered and supported. We continue this journey with intensified efforts.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn historical beliefs that women of color have limits. To the contrary, we can do anything. We are educated, resilient and capable. I was taught to use my faith. Through faith , I have changed my ways and chose to understand that what we believe is powerful.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I became a mother in high school. I was told that I would be limited. People stopped being my friends. I had to learn to love myself and believe in what I couldn’t see. I bet on myself and won. Anything is possible if we only believe and silence the noise.
