We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kierra Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kierra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I became the content editor I am through classic trial and error. For years, I have created content of many types, whether video, photo, or graphic, for my accounts and others. Over time, you develop new skills, strategies, or approaches to bettering your craft. I believe when you’re passionate about it, the drive to increase your knowledge comes naturally, but it’s the dedication to commit to teh goals you set for yourself that keeps you going.
What could I have done to speed up my learning process? Nothing. Everything happens for a reason, and I’m thankful for the ups and downs that I encountered on my journey. Sometimes, God has you in a waiting period before you prove you’re ready to level up. I’m in no hurry to rush his plan.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
First things first, my name is Kierra, your favorite Graphic Designer and Content Editor! I’m a Florida native who grew up with creative talents from crochet, singing, videography, and, eventually, design. My fascination for visuals and marketing started in Undergrad and strongly developed post-grad.
As a self-taught Graphic Designer, I had to learn a lot, not only the fundamentals of design but also branding. I had no idea where to start, but I took that time to research and build my understanding because now I’m in a position to help others do the same. Fast-forward four years, and I now help brands, both business and personal, create quality content that will elevate their brands.
Kgraphixdeisgns offers services ranging from Brand Development to Wix Website Designs, Online Courses, and Editing. All our services are tailored to educate the client and give an experience that curates space for a solid foundation in how their brands should be repaid to the audiences.
Working with my clients is a teamwork experience. I thoroughly enjoy it because we both have strengths or knowledge that complement the other. The satisfaction of their results is what makes the last nights and early mornings worth it.
The one thing I’m most proud of is successfully completing my 31 Days of Content Tips Series on Instagram. I started the content series as a challenge to myself, and as a result, I grew my page from 6,100 followers to nearly 15, or in one month. This insane growth in my page was validation I am aligned with where I need to be, and that is to be in a space where I educate fellow creators and business owners on how to curate and utilize content to reach their goals.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was only using insights to tell me what was best for my content. I am a believer in the 50/50 rule. I take 50% of what the insights say and 50% of my instincts to determine when and what to post.
Like many people, I was obsessed with the numbers, but in hindsight, they didn’t matter. If you engage with your audience and build those relationships, that’s where you really understand what your audience needs.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Multiple strategies have contributed to my growth in clientele, but the one that has provided me with the most long-term clients has been word of mouth. Customer service goes a long way in business and people will want to share your information if proven reliable. I am always surprised to meet a potential client, and when I ask them how they heard about me, they say, such and such told me about you. And sometimes I don’t even know who such and such is. lol Im thankful nonetheless.
