Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rosa Cifuentes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rosa, appreciate you joining us today. Growth is exciting, but from what we’ve seen across thousands of conversations with entrepreneurs it’s also dangerous if costs aren’t watched closely – sometimes costs can grow out of control outpacing revenue growth and putting the viability of the entire business at risk. How have you managed to keep costs under control?
I have found that my biggest concern is that I get so many ideas and want to create all of them. Since my business is still in its early stages the capital isn’t really there to back all the materials it requires for new projects unless I use personal funds . My excitement makes me lose sight that although it may be a great idea , i’m spending money that just isn’t available to spend .
Rosa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
BeBow’d by Rosa is an accessory business that specializes in unique hair bows. We offer a wide variety of colors and patterns that you wouldn’t normally see in your local beauty supply. As a brand I pride myself on individuality. I focus on creating a unique look that matches the person that is wearing the accessory. Our products range from hair bows to bow ties and we also offer collars for the fur babies . I take pride in seeing my customers grow with my business. I have customers that i have created accessories for before they were out of the womb. This is truly an accomplishment because I know that my customers are satisfied with my product and are proud to own a piece of me.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My daughter Rhea is actually the cofounder of BeBow’d by Rosa. I have been a seamstress since I was about 5 years old so creating a look has always been a passion of mine . During the pandemic I finally got the opportunity to share this passion with my daughter . While teaching her how to sew she started to play with the excess fabric that we had and asked could we make a bow out of it . It seemed like a great idea so we switched gears and started to work on the first line of hair bows that we launched back in March of 2019.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
All of our products are handmade. Big shoutout to YouTube and trial and error . I had no idea what I was doing at first , but with practice and my previous knowledge of sewing it all worked out. I’ve learned that a lot of creating a product is finding out what works for you . You can research the best products for what you are making but at the end of the day , that product may not be best for what you are looking for .
