Makala, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.

Yes, The Maid for Mess understands the importance of a clean environment being essential for productivity and well-being. That’s why we take pride in ensuring that every nook and cranny is spotless, leaving spaces looking and feeling fresh and inviting for families/ individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, single family households, and individuals experiencing economic burdens. Although we service the Los Angeles and surrounding areas, we take pride in servicing the underserved with an affordable service.

Story time:

We recently serviced a new client who had a relative with down syndrome in her home and a mother in a nursing home. She was overwhelmed and embarrassed of the current condition of her space. Her previous cleaner began to not show up and was getting older in age. When we arrived we noticed the overwhelming amount of items she gathered over a period of time. Her bedroom was no longer a place for peace or rest and she spent her nights on the living room sofa. We reassured her that The Maid for Mess takes pride in assisting individuals in her position and to not worry about how she may feel it “looks”. Once she left, we took initiative. We began by organizing her spaces and discarding items that were trash. We cleaned her walls and every part of he house was touched. Once she returned, she walked into a space she did not recognize and her eyes began to fill with tears. She expressed how she had spoken to her mother and stated ” I feel like my life is about to change after this cleaning”. She expressed gratitude and amazement of being able to walk in her room and sleep in her bed. After a week, she reached back out to say thank you again and provided the most heart warming update of how they were living in their clean home.

Serving the underserved in the form of a cleaning service matters extremely. A clean space is a safe space which allows the opportunity to regather yourself & clean your mental worries. Although she had a resource that was suppose to clean, they did not. All resources that the underserved community may be offered may not always come through or may have long waiting periods. It is important to be there for the community when the state or government cannot. Many may feel left out, unheard, and alone with life and economic burdens that pile up. The Maid for Mess is proud to be there when no one else is!

Hi, My name is Makala Perry. I grew up in a military family and although I cleaned my whole life, I only got into the cleaning industry once I arrived to Los Angeles in December of 2018. During my own financial hardships, I took a financial class that helped me discover how I could service the community while also getting out of my financial situation. I made a list of things that I “like” to do and know “how” to do. I started to go down that list and research every market in which I could contribute to and develop a business that would withstand any competition or hardship. Cleaning was at the top of my list.

The Maid For Mess, takes cleaning to a whole new level! Our small business specializes in cleaning services and has become a trusted name in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I started this business with my personal funds. I am currently seeking investors and grants to continue the growth of my business.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I believe my attentiveness and ability to listen to my clients and then go the extra mile of what they may need is what helped build my reputation. The ability to see what others need without them saying it and also being flexible makes others feel noticed and heard. It is not a “give me your money and I do nothing” service. I also learned from the horror stories of other cleaners they have experienced. I provide a personal experience for each client instead of a one size fits all, allowing each client to express their needs and building a service specifically for their home or space.
