We recently connected with LA Redd and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I don’t think I would have been “ready” to pursue comedy. I am a firm believer that everything happens divine timing. I started comedy in 2019, by just going to an open mic. At the time it was a means of therapy for me. Had I started any earlier I would not have had the life experiences that lead me to the stage in the first place. I don’t think the journey would be as meaningful as it is today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a Charlotte, NC native. Born and raised. I started comedy back in 2019. I was off and on with it until around 2021. I didn’t know how serious I wanted to be with it because it was initially just an outlet for me. After the pandemic, I decided to really put more time and effort into my craft. Since then I’ve been able to perform on stages from North Carolina, all the way to Colorado. While the goal is to make people laugh, it has been more rewarding to have those few people come up to me after a show and tell me how they can relate or they have a child that has experienced something similar that I may talk about. My comedy is all about embracing diversity and inclusion and if I’m able to connect with people and change a life that way, then my work is done.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
First I would say, buy tickets and actually show up! Artists work hard at what they do and put a LOT of time and effort into delivering quality work and/or performances. The least anyone can do is show support and understand that it’s art. Even with comedy, it’s a form of artistic expression. Secondly, understand that just like any other form of art, we are people too. We have thoughts and feelings and opinions that usually come out on stage but that is not the sum of who we are.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to always challenge people to think outside of what they are used to. My goal is to get people to see that there are more things that unite us than there are that divide us as people.
