Malyk, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Risks are being taken daily, good and bad. Always high reward, always high in risk. These past two years, I’ve moved my entire life to a new state. In this time I was given an opportunity to showcase who I am and what I do. Which has obviously brought changes and more good than anything in my life.
I’m so happy I took the risk. Since then, I’ve been noticed twice by bigger markets. For that, I’m much more grateful.
Malyk, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Malyk Thomas, the Trini Child. Professionally known as Simba; or possibly just a nickname given before being born. I am 26, a model and entrepreneur in my own creative right. I’ve been blessed in ways and I admire showing others to do the same.
I’m from Kalamazoo, Michigan and I can’t get away long enough, but I love home. Traveling all over the country these past 8 years; showing off my face and trying to escape a world of judgement and a mind stubborn to change the past and create an abundant future.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
As we are coming to see, having more open minds in this world will have a huge push. Also, changing environments where we are comfortable. Escaping your comfort zone will show you something different. Escaping what others might think of this agenda will help you create something new and important to you.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Growing up, me and my siblings were homeless with our mother as our father was deported back to Trinidad. Huge event in my life that has pushed me to continue to be the best I can be. Show up for shoots. Try my best.
