We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chef Raquel Oderbert-Hemphill. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chef Raquel below.
Alright, Chef Raquel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Chef RockieBree really started as just a thought in my head. I never thought that I’d be in this field of personal chef work due to the fact that before the pandemic, most personal or private chefs were gate keepers. I went to Johnson & Wales University in North Miami and some of the instructors there were private chefs but they would never tell us how to get personal chef jobs because, they felt like we’d take their clients away.
So I stuck with my plan of staying in the health care field and work my way up into food service management. I didn’t revisit the idea of being a personal chef until my best friends spouse asked me to do her uncles wedding. I then realized that oh I love doing weddings but I’m NOT READY FOR THIS! 😂
So I went and continued my executive chef journey and then the pandemic happened. Chef RockieBree was born again. I started drawing logos and then I wanted my business to be different from the others. I wanted it to be a dining experience like how I would host as my future self.
You know everyone has that one auntie in the family that has no kids and takes luxurious vacations all the time, has theme parties in her home and is just all around fabulous. Yeah that’s my avatar, that’s my niche!
No chef in the areas I services specialize in custom small beach weddings and luxury dining experiences in a one stop shop deal. So I made that into my specialty. Chef RockieBree not only embodies my personality but it got me excited about putting my love for decor and interior design and culinary arts into one and I couldn’t be excited by the outcome!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a traveling private chef. I’ve been a chef for almost 13 years. I have a Bs degree in culinary arts and food service management. Chef RockieBree llc is my passion. I strive to serve excellent Cajun southern cuisine with a little sparkle. With my services I strive to give you 5 star experience in your home and specialize in custom small beach weddings.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what help build my reputation with my market are my clients. I don’t do any heavy marketing ads other than posting the dining experiences I do. My clients really do the marketing for me. At the end of all my dining experiences, I give them thank you cards a floral arrangement and a business card. I think because I have great customer service, that has built my reputation as a reliable professional, is what sets me apart from the rest.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source in getting new clients have been TikTok! It always amazes me how people will find be and instantly book with me. It gives me the courage to keep posting even though I’m highly introverted 🤣
