We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caitelyn Canals. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caitelyn below.
Caitelyn, appreciate you joining us today. Quality control is a challenge almost every entrepreneur has had to focus on when growing – any advice, stories or insight around how to best ensure quality is maintained as your business scales?
When I first started coordinating events with our team, we did not realize that with the growth in numbers of our attendees per event, we would also have an expectation for the type of experience we would offer them as well.
With that factor to take into mind, we needed to consider placing ourselves in the consumer’s shoes and really thinking about how much we could benefit if our events were a bit elevated and held at venues with admirable taste in the quality of the atmosphere and with the potential the venue had as well.
This type of thoughtfulness is what many companies do when coming up with marketing strategies, or breakdowns when brain storming for the next project they want to focus on to bring in more foot traffic to buy their products etc. We do this to make sure we’re putting thought into our creative process for people to enjoy our events and want to come back for more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello! It’s great to be back to speak a bit more about my company and what we’re working towards for both Houston and Austin, Tx locations. My name is Caitelyn Canals, founder and creator of Spiritual Nerdz events and car meets. Yes, we host community events on one end of the spectrum and on the other end we also collaborate with companies and local breweries to host large scale care meets too.
I have a team of eight that are split in both cities Houston and Austin, Tx. We currently are taking a brief break from Austin events in preparation for festival season to discuss where we will be putting together our next event with a goal of 60 plus vendors and local businesses as sponsors for. For now we have a pretty packed schedule for Houston and we are excited!
We host a variety of events from local farmers markets, to pop up thrift events, networking sessions, music festivals and car meets all within local venues that are needing promoting.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
When we originally started doing events, I was the sole fund supply for everything. I was using the last of my savings to pay for venues and using what I had to help with ads and marketing. It was tough. It wasn’t until we started having vendors then return and keep coming back due to having enjoyed our events that we realized the vendor fees were helping and paying for the venues and employee costs. It took a while before we noticed any change in numbers, but eventually we were able to successfully manage.
When vendors first look at our events, they immediately go straight to what the vendor fee costs without considering the breakdown of what their fee really pays. The standard vendor fee goes towards paying the venue space, employee wages, funding for any catering, decorating services, DJ rating, and so much more. So we thank the many vendors that keep returning and for those who donate and invest in our company to continue to do events we love in order to give back to the community as much as we can.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I strongly believe the reputation we have as a company is best reflected by how our employees interact with customers as well as how I interact with vendors. Overall, the attitude and energy we bring to each event speak volumes, and I believe no matter how things are going in our personal lives, we should always focus on being positive and remember that we’re here for eachother and we’re hear to spread positivity.
