We recently connected with Franklin Edwards and have shared our conversation below.
Franklin, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
One of the most significant risks I embraced was my decision to leave formal education and pursue a career as a full-time author at the age of 20. Despite having only a high school diploma and no prior work experience, I had authored two children’s books. To ensure financial stability and meet my basic needs, I dedicated myself to selling my books daily, as it constituted my sole source of income. Three years later, I have successfully established multiple bookstores in various locations across Dallas, Texas. Moreover, I founded a publishing company that has released over 30 books by different authors. Collaborating with Kroger for book distribution, appearing on television programs, gracing magazine covers, and earning from public speaking engagements that entail traveling to address diverse audiences are among the milestones I have achieved. Looking back, transitioning from formal education to a full-time author remains my most daring risk and rewarding decision.

Franklin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Three years ago, at the age of 21, Franklin Edwards penned his debut book, “Just Be Yourself,” igniting his writing journey. Since then, he has authored and published fifteen Christian-based children’s books focusing on positive social behavior. Noteworthy titles include “Just Be Yourself,” “How to Apologize,” “Have Faith,” “Poems of Life,” “Taking Accountability,” and “Franklin el Consejero.”
Driven by a profound love for literature, Franklin established his publishing company, where he independently publishes works for other authors. Committed to interacting with young minds, he conducts enriching school visits, showcasing his expertise in public speaking and entrepreneurship. Addressing the critical issue of bullying, Franklin imparts invaluable strategies for handling such challenges. Additionally, through workshops, he empowers children to delve into significant life topics, guiding them in writing and publishing their own books.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I strategically grew my social media audience by encouraging every book purchaser to follow me on social platforms in person. With every sale, I personally requested customers to promptly connect on Instagram. The optimal moment to seek social media support is when engaging face-to-face with a client post-purchase. Capitalizing on the customer’s positive psychological state post-purchase enhances receptiveness and cooperation, increasing the likelihood of garnering their support on social media.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
My most successful client acquisition strategy entails approaching each day with a singular focus on driving product sales. Embracing the motto, “If I influence one new client unfamiliar with my brand today, I have triumphed,” underscores the impact of attracting multiple individuals through the acquisition of a single client.
