Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Roe Warren. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Roe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When I decided to open my first store & atelier on Melrose Ave in front of the bungalow I was renting. I asked my landlady if I could rent the tiny store in front & upstairs room to start up my business. It was a very neglected space & she new this! She said why Roe would u want to use that space ? It will take so much work to clean & make it workable. I said I am willing and able and I have a Vision.
How much do you want Jan?
She said let my think….
How does $300 per month sound for now since it is such a mess ? My heart jumped so high!
I said are you kidding me? Are you sure? YES of course she said
And the rest is Excellent history.
I am grateful to this day for that beautiful generous woman. She made it all happen for me back in 1984

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Formal training as a painter/ artist came from Santa Monica College & free lance work 1969-72 .
I have been making Floral Headdress since I was 9 years old. I wanted to design millinery & model like my Great Aunt
Tennessee. She was my Muse. She taught me how to sew & create by hand.
I created bouquets w fresh, wild, & faux flora. I asked my mom to take me downtown LA to the flower mkt to get supplies. That is where it all began. My Dream was to have a store one day designing hats, bouquets for weddings, & paint. All Floral inspired. I adore Nature & still love to Forage & use wild botanicals in whatever I design.
When I moved to NY 1994 I worked with several stores in Manhattan building from the ground up , as well as, creative director with visual designing.
My credo is to make someone’s Dream come true in whatever medium chosen.
As a Creative Director in California now, I have several stores that I work with on their Visual Merchandising & Windows all year, Seasonally.
I have private clients who I guide with Interior Styling.
Currently, I am collaborating with an interior designer on an art installation for her new home.
I do wear a great many hats.
Pun intended !
Making beautiful creations with beautiful goods is what I relish the most.
I am most proud of creating my Atelier/ Store on Melrose in 1984.
They were the best years of my life as a creative. Those years gave me bounties of wonderful experiences , lessons, opportunities & friends to this day. Now I dream of another store one day soon.
I must say I am very beautifully attributed & beyond grateful to be able to offer so much to my clients.
I look so forward to new challenges with every potential opportunity.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
This is one my favorite happenings of my life in business.
I was the creative director for a store in Manhattan & working in their booth at the NY Gift show.
A client walked into the space .
I welcomed her & asked if she was looking for anything specific.
She replied: ” I really do not think u can help me with what I am hunting for actually” LOL
I said” Try me” Then she said
“I need to have a hat made for a toy!” and laughed.
I put my hand out to introduce myself and said ” Hello I am Rosemary Warren , I am a Milliner” May I help you.
The woman’s mouth dropped ! She said Are u kidding me.
It was a Miracle !
She introduced herself. I am the creative director for Steiff Toys and I need a hat made for a limited series Teddy Bear 500 hats please
Then I replied” I am your woman”
Then she asked: can I come to the showroom to meet the president & discuss details.
Of course I can and the rest is history.
It was such divine intervention .
A HUGE win win

Have you ever had to pivot?
Happened once & never again
My neighbor across the hall from me asked if I would do the florals for their wedding ?
I gave it some thot etc
Finally said yes. Gave them a very good price which I offered !
They gave me a deposit.
Delivered it all beautifully executed . The day after their event the bride came banging on our door! I opened to yelling & screaming at me that the flowers were nothing like she wanted ‼️
Note: She approved a sample !
So I said One minute , closed our door & my boyfriend asked me what I was going to do?
LOL silently I got my purse, took out their deposit of $300
Opened my door. Handed her the deposit back. And said very calmly ” You Owe me Nothing”
Closed my door. Smiled at my guy & he said I am so proud of you babe! Brava
They moved out the very next day ‼️
I remain proud of myself to this day for my affirmative action!
And from that day forward I have always said to a client if I sense
any hesitation or they cannot decide or the words I trust you
never come out of their mouths
I say” I do not think I will be able to make you happy ”
And then give them a referral of another designer pricier then me & one less then me. Voile’
Usually they choose me after all of that. It works. It is honest & it comes from integrity.
