We were lucky to catch up with Shaunice Cherelle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Shaunice, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’d say the most meaningful project that I’ve worked on so far has to be my very first EP album CULTIV8’D. The process of creating and finishing it was such a transformative and life changing experience. In my 20s and navigating myself and the world, learning, unlearning and relearning, growing and all the things. I took my experiences and outlooks and put it into the music. It was important for me to be my true self while also showing vulnerability. There were so many layers I explored and uncovered. Now, I finally have released it and it’s so rewarding to see others relate it!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an independent R&B singer, songwriter and producer. I’m an old soul at heart and I like to sprinkle some of that soul into my music along with a touch of Hip Hop/Rap. I started singing at a very early age, once my family discovered that I had the gift at about 3 years old. Since then, I have done talent shows, competitions, pop-ups, and so on, until the age of 18. After college, I fully committed to music and dove into my music career in 2017 where I wrote my first EP album- which is now “CULTIV8’D”.
What I feel most proud of is making it to a stage in life where Im maneuvering through my greatness on my own terms with Gods timing. I’m proud that I never gave up and I feel closer to my dreams than ever before.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
About 4 years into my music journey and working on my album, I faced a lot of push back in almost all aspects. I wasn’t booking many gigs, didn’t have much musical peers, and was from 1 producer to the next trying to find the sound and quality that I was looking for. I reached a point where I just didn’t feel like I fit in and I had exhausted all my options. So, I made the decision to up and leave my hometown to go where I could flourish and wasn’t boxed in. I moved to ATL, GA from Tampa, FL. Within 2 weeks I started an unexpected, but fun journey of acting after being casted for a couple projects and within a couple months I was in the studio back working on my album which ended up coming out greater than I could ask for! The pivot for me was to make a life choice and take a risk from what I was used to. Realizing that your hometown may not be your audience and you just may be too big to fit. So, taking a leap of faith could very well land you exactly where you need to be.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to reach my highest potential with my crafts and receive everything in life that is meant for me. I want whatever God wants for me. Nothing more, nothing less.
