We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Foster recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
When I decided to start a wedding venue on my family’s ancestral property, I didn’t know anything about the wedding industry. As you can imagine, this was a blessing and a curse as I got started, for I had MUCH to learn! However, one of the blessings of being ignorant of wedding industry norms was that I didn’t approach pricing the way most venues do. This has blessed our clients tremendously and never ceases to amaze our potential brides and grooms!
Let’s say you’re recently engaged and starting to venue hunt with your budget in mind. Venue after venue tells you a dreamy price, so you schedule your tour. Once there, you find that the price you heard on the phone was only a starting price, and every single item or experience- from chair pads to liquor fees- are going to cost you extra. Your dreamy quote soon becomes the cost of a small down payment on a house and you leave discouraged and feeling you won’t be able to afford your dream wedding.
That’s where Marchand Ranch is different. Not knowing that this practice of nickel and dime-ing couples for everything was standard, I committed to ONE price per day of the week. That price includes everything our venue has to offer, and couples never have to be surprised by unexpected fees. With all that we include, we’re one of the most affordable venues in Colorado!
Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Marchand Ranch, we transform wedding dreams into reality.
Nestled just minutes west of Canon City, Colorado, in a picturesque valley, our family ranch was established in 1920. The ranch has a storied history, having served as a working cattle ranch and a sawmill during the Great Depression. The idea of preserving and utilizing the original hay barn as a wedding venue was inspired by our desire to blend rich family history with the authentic charm of a real ranch.
Our wedding venue is renowned for excellence in every aspect, providing a personalized connection with each couple and their guests. We stand out for our flexibility, allowing couples to choose any vendors they prefer—a rarity in this industry. From the moment a couple says “I Do,” they become part of the Marchand Ranch legacy, a continuation of our family’s 120-year history.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Every. Voice. Matters.
Our team is small, but ever growing. One of the ways that we are building deep buy-in from our team members is prioritizing giving each person space for their voice to be heard and for their opinion to count. Rather than keep a barrier between the “higher ups” and the rest of the crew, we use weekly team times to forecast the future, build excitement for things to come, and give judgement-free opportunities for all team members to express areas they identify as weaknesses in our company, or areas they feel they need support to thrive in their position.
Our other primary value is appreciation. Each team member’s value is something that we make a big deal of celebrating, appreciating and affirming. Cared-for-people make the best brand representatives, and our whole team operates best when every person knows they are appreciated and believed in.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before the start of Marchand Ranch, my previous small business was thriving. I was operating in my strengths, had an all-star team of employees, and customer loyalty. Any financial advisor surely would have told me not to leave the business that was on such an upward trajectory!
Then a few years ago one of my parents experienced some health scares that would forever change the course of our lives. I realized that for my family’s treasured family ranch to survive over the decades to come, it was going to need to evolve and transform into a different kind of revenue-stream than a cattle ranch. After much dreaming, praying, and walking the acres of land I grew up on, the vision for Marchand Ranch was born.
Leaving my comfort zone and high-profit business for the sake of carrying on my family’s legacy is a decision I would make over and over again. In having left what I was familiar with for the sake of who and where I love, my family has entered a whole new future. We’re in the early years of what is projected to be one of the top wedding venues in Colorado, and I’m both humbled and excited to see what is in store!
There have been literal blood, sweat and tears- but it has all been worth it.
