Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caeland Mosley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caeland, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
I understand that fashion is a form of art, styles and trends change. For example I live in Arizona and today’s trends are popular. Karl Lagerfeld quoted “Every era gets the poor taste it deserves” I see that fast and cheap fashion is a hit because you can get more for less. The reason why high – end clothing is pricey is because it is rich in history and their products are made with quality materials not to mention added popularity among customers and celebrities. We have websites like Temu and Shein where you can order anything . These are not American based but it adds to the microwave attitude that is popular nowadays. H&M and Fashion Nova are retail chains that sell clothing at a very affordable price. H&M and Fashion Nova are both very innovative by giving customers the option to buy clothing at very low cost. There is a old saying you cannot have your cake and eat it too. It is one or the other. In fashion it is one or the other either your high-end or your low end. The question you have to ask yourself is do you want fast without the quality and craftsmanship that comes with luxury to marque clothing. It is pricey. If you want the best you will have to pay for it. I do believe fast fashion is going to increase more in popularity. I have also seen style change and in my view watch the world become bland oatmeal. I am very big on image and I enjoy looking the best and being a red dot amongst all the black dots. I have also noticed a lack of individuality amongst people and clothing, I am a firm believer in being your own person.
Caeland, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am always delighted to introduce myself my name is Caeland Mosley, I am the owner of Natrl Kngz LLC. Natrl Kngz is a Luxury clothing brand that I Started back in 2020 during the pandemic. I have been in love with clothing for as long as I can remember. I studied graphic design at Dona Community College in Las Cruces, NewMexico and Glendale Community college in Arizona. I learned all Aspects of Design while I studied Graphic design. I began learning how to sketch in a art class at Glendale Community College and learned more about designing prints from my 2d design class at Glendale Community College in Arizona. I learned how to design on Adobe Creative Suite from Dona Community College. When I was attending Glendale Community College I had the bright idea to start Natrl Kngz. At the time I was into streetwear. Streetwear is a category of clothing that is built off of trends and falls into the fast fashion category. So I designed T shirts and sold them in parking lots to see how they would perform. At the time I had no idea what I was doing was considered sales. I just wanted to see how well people liked my shirts, some days were slow and the other were fast that’s just how sales is. I funded myself and Natrl Kngz took off from there. Natrl Kngz started evolving and it turned into a luxury clothing line. The designs started becoming more sleek, modern, and simplistic. What sets Natrl Kngz apart from other Clothing lines is the growth and maturity of the brand and What Natrl Kngz stands for. Natrl Kngz stands for top tier customer service, and quality clothing. I am mostly proud of the evolution of Natrl Kngz I cant wait to go further and fly farther and for potential customer to embrace the awesomeness of Natrl Kngz. I also want my potential customers to know that i care about their image and I want them to look exceptional.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives my mission is to give men better options when it comes to clothing design. In my freetime I will go to the mall and browse around the men’s section in a department store aside from the suit section which I enjoy wearing. I have noticed that women have more selections than men in department stores. I have also noticed the lack of options for men when it comes to designs of shirts, jeans and shoes. The women’s department of Dillard’s has more options than the men’s department. I love Dillard’s it is one of my favorite stores to shop at some of my favorite designer brands are at Dillard’s. As far as selection for men goes I don’t believe it is fair. Also I understand adapting to change is hard and when something that you are not familiar with. Especially when a brand that you have not heard of. But it looks good is in front of you, some questions are going to be asked. I get it, I made it my personal mission to give men more options when it comes to design in different categories of clothing and accessories. Also to join the ranks of other African American designers. I see how as men we have it hard when it comes to Luxury clothing and clothing in general. I am here to provide men of the world with another luxury clothing line with crisp and sharp designs. What inspires me to be creative is to stand out and not follow other designer trends and to set my own trends and having a unique voice in the world of fashion.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I have read books about various designers the most recent book I reviewed is called The World According to Karl. In the book he gives his philosophy, world views, and views on fashion. I enjoyed this book I admire Karl’s work on and off the mannequins. I particularly admired his views on fashion today. I thought they were spot on for todays times. He sheds light on how some people get stuck in a era of fashion and think that the world is supposed to dress this way. Which is the opposite fashion is always changing what might be in today might be out tomorrow. He also explains that fashion is superficial you have to accept that if you choose it as a profession and every era gets the fashion it deserves. Another book i read periodically is called the Little Red Book of Selling by Jeffery Gitomer. I worked sales for some years selling Natrl Kngz, Shoe Mgk, Verizon 5G Wi-Fi, AT&T and Volvo’s and fell in love with the art of selling. The book is small and contains allot of nuggets for such a small book. It helped me when I was in sells. Working in sells is very rewarding and transforming. I became a new person and learned how to articulate my thoughts into words. I also learned that sells is key if you want to bring revenue to your business, it is king and should be the heart of your business. I enjoy learning about designers and reading their biographies and reading about business as well another i book i have read but I still refer back to is called Negotiate Like A CEO by Jotham S. Stein. I love how in this book he makes it plain and clear that any one can be fired. Even entrepreneurs get kicked out of their own company that they created. CEO’s get fired no one is immune to losing there position. It goes into detail about entrepreneurs and executives get conned by stock brokers. A great piece of information from this book is to always do your research on who your working for some founders are abusive. watch who you talk to your words are always going to be used against you. Your employers lawyers are loyal to the company and not you.
