Alright, Andrea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company has transformed over the years and it reflects what I was going through emotionally. My first name was Daily Dose by Drea – I kind of copied it from my personal Instagram username and liked the play on words. It was a great starter name that kept me consistent with branding my product for its daily use and convenience. As I grew, I tried Daily Dose Cosmetic, but I hated the box I put myself in. I view myself and my brand as a collective rather than one kind of item. My final name, That’s Perf is an effortless play on words that really embodies my previous names. That’s Perf is how I describe something that’s cool, chic, and easy to use within my day to day. I love the parts of my life that can just effortlessly exist or make sense while I am dealing with that’s not perfect.
Andrea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I unintentionally started my brand at a time where I was broke and heartbroken. In 2019, I had a lot of loss and needed something to occupy my time. I am a firm believer in clean ingredients and keeping beauty affordable. I stumbled upon the deep makeup side of YouTube and watched lipgloss videos. I took bits and pieces of the formula and created my own with what I had on hand (jojoba, castor, and essential oil). Once I had a scent, I ordered the gel base with whatever money I had in my back account and created a formula I liked wearing 24/7. Believing in myself and having the support of my friends to push this out as a sellable product was something I thought I could never do. However, im extremely proud of the time I took prepare the back end of my business, such as, social media branding, online engagement, packaging, labels, note cards, lip gloss tubes, and various flavors for rotating inventory seasonally. The one thing I’d love for you to know is that I started this brand when it was just me, but now it has gotten to where it is today with the support of my Houston community, family, and friends. That’s Perf is a brand meant for you!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Always being kind to others! I let my clients know that I am their friend and to contact me directly about anything. I always encourage them and first time buyers to reach out with their thoughts. My brand is growing and feedback is always appreciated.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth. I cannot stress it enough how much I appreciate the Houston community. From friends to aunts to their cousins coworker, word travels fast! Vendor events have been a huge success as well, shout-out to Curb Coalition for making it a donation based vendor fee. Also, a huge thank you to Beauty Bungalow Heights for carrying my products, and Pachuca’s Barber Supply in South Houston for taking a chance on me!
