We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mick, The Doctor of Digital, Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mick, The Doctor of Digital, , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I have a standard Liberal Arts educational background but insightlfully as an early adopter of the Internet and while it was taking off in 1994 I jumped on early. I built distance learning programs which proved to be profitable and saved a significant amount of time for students. Consulting proved to be more rewarding and lucrative so in 1998 I started advocating for digital transformation and grew companies in education, non-profit, and for the Internet start-up fields. Over the years as an educational transformer I embraced the digital world and really, what I do, as The Doctor of Digital, combines my decades long experience in digital marketing, as a voice talent, and as a podcaster. More recently, after publishing in academia for years, I had a good story which I captured in my novel: Burning America: In the Best Interest of the Children?

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The PERFECT STORM. Many recognize American organizations are impacted by one crisis after another.
I lead organizations to promote American values of rationality, integrity, honesty, justice, productivity, self-worth and self-reliance.
Are you ready to get ready?
I play at the intersection of education, training, and technology. Organizations seek me out to profit from the looming future. They move forward confidently, realizing outstanding outcomes, e.g., reducing costs, integrating innovative solutions, and successfully marketing their services.
With 20+ years as a C-Suite Educational Technology Executive, I am known for solving intractable educational problems, spanning technology, corporate, non-profit and university settings.
TRANSFORMING FOR THE FUTURE
My approach to moving forward is simple: my academic side first analyzes the past, while my inner entrepreneur designs and implements the future, like an agile programmer.
Academia | I applied my strategic expertise and ability to champion change by applying my competencies in education, technology and administration to
• enable an increase in on-campus enrollment by 25%
• surge the Net Promoter Score by 20 points, and
• increase the bottom line by 10%
Non-Profit | With in-house subject matter experts, I was tasked to reverse negative trends to make the organizations’ courses more accessible and generate greater demand. Designed and led initiative to convert analog training courses to a digital format for remote access.
• Recovered 25% of prior year membership erosion
• Increased by 10% the digital learners who couldn’t attend the live Conference sessions
WHAT’S NEXT |
Are you ready to get ready? Is it time to Think Big? What does that look like? What’s the Future you want for your organization?
I seek conversations with leaders ready to embrace change and improve their organization. And it starts with a conversation.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I wrote a novel about it. All works of fiction are based at one point or another on real life and this story illustrates my resilience: Burning America: In the Best Interest of the Children?
Paul Theus is a respectable middle-class professor until his peaceful world is shattered as we find out from the first line: “No parent prepares for a child to be taken.”
Beware of strangers and watch out for the big bad wolf kids are told but what if a family unit is smoldered from within by a mother? Paul found the note that his wife was leaving for awhile tucked in a book about the Jon Bonet Ramsey child murder.
The Bohemian mother Anne Theus inflames the threat posed by the idea that it takes the village court to raise a child.
Do the courts really act in the best interest of the children?
Parents plan for their children’s home, school, clothes, food, and happiness but once the Theus’ five-year daughter is kidnapped we are barraged by conflict for over three years until the terminal end.
Is the terminal ending tragic or the only possible resolution to the conflict? You decide.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Yes, most small companies start with a website but either are short-staffed or have not constantly watched their site by hiring a digital marketing agency. So many businesses are surprised to discover at one time or another that their site, or paid ads are not effective any more. The lack of focus themselves or hiring an agency is what causes your business to lose out to your competitors. For example, one reason I offer a complimentary website analysis is to inform business owners about their site in comparison to their competitors as a guide to improve and increase their competitive edge.
