We were lucky to catch up with Donte Boomer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Donte, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Originally, My first time writing was due to my misbehavior in middle school. I would get sent to ISS everyday, and we were told that we couldn’t do anything. So, I began to just start writing to myself. It’ll start with one word, then a sentence, then it evolved to writing a full page everyday about anything that came to mind. It was an instrument to my creative thinking
Donte, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve written articles for others, so most would cast me as a writer, but I’m more involved with being an author. I have ideas that I like to translate to books that I eventually want to see made into films. No matter what I’ve done with life, writing just always seemed to be a part of it. It was honestly one of things I never could escape. Every path I’ve taken through life has always given me a sign to write. Not be cliche, but it’s almost as if I’m meant for it. Seeing that I’ve been doing it forever, I feel I am made for it. I’m able to remember things I’ve written from years ago, and I don’t even have them in my possession anymore. It’s odd to me because I’ve never been able to feel close to something as much as I do with writing.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I had to unlearn both with writing and with life is patience. My first novel only took me three months to write, while this one took me a full year. I had writer block, and I wasn’t used to it. I honestly thought that my creative mind was gone, as if I was supposed to give up on what I had started. It made me discourage depressed for a minute, honestly. But I had to learn that I am only human, and I can only do so much. Patience shows you just how strong you must make your mindset in order to be what you see yourself as.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
As of now I started a Go fund me in order to make sure my novel ‘Dis-Guise’ is published. I’m in the works of talking to a few publishers, and I want to have Enugu funds to make sure I have the resources for my novel to be seen by everyone who’s interested.
