We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Gendron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Hi Kayla, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission behind my photography business is rooted in core values that inspire my work: providing an exceptional experience for my clients, performing all activities with ethical leadership, and employing innovative creativity. My passion lies in being actively involved with communities and enhancing individuals’ quality of life.
Opening my own food, beverage, and product photography business marked more than just the start of a new venture; it was a unique way to help others. Beyond capturing delectable dishes, I aim to partner with businesses, crafting images that showcase their culinary creations and elevate their brand identity.
Every photoshoot is an opportunity to assist these businesses in achieving their goals, whether by attracting more customers through mouthwatering visuals or helping them tell their story through food. This approach has transformed my business from a mere service provider into a valued ally for restaurants, cafes, and food or drink brands. There is nothing more exciting to me than taking an incredible culinary creation and using my creative eye to make it shine!
Kayla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kayla Gendron and I am the owner of A Spoonful Photography! A Spoonful Photography specializes in capturing the delicious details of culinary creations, beverages, and products. Through my lens, I highlight the vibrant and enticing qualities of food, providing high-quality imagery that tantalizes the senses. I am proud to offer food photography, beverage photography, restaurant photography, and product photography.
In addition to being a food photographer, I am a passionate volunteer for several organizations. For nine years, I’ve granted life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses alongside Make-A-Wish Wisconsin and Give Kids the World. Being a wish-granting volunteer has shown me real-life magic, the kind that people think only exists in fairytales. I’ve seen it inside hospital rooms and homes, where families and communities come together to support each other in their darkest moments.
After working in the corporate world for many years, I decided to open my food photography business to highlight my passion and creative eye for food while creating a community-centered business. My goal was to channel the magic I’ve seen in volunteering into my work. Amazing things happen when passion and community align!
I love being a food photographer because I deeply appreciate the hard work and talent that goes into creating dishes and products. From farmers tending to their cattle and processing goods to beekeepers carefully managing their hives to lining grocery shelves or serving incredible dishes in restaurants, each step in the journey of food creation is a testament to dedication and skill. Capturing these efforts through my lens allows me to honor and share the stories behind each delicious creation..
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me is leaning on my strengths. I enjoy making new connections and I know that it is easiest for me to talk to others. I found that in meeting new people and being a person first and my business second, that I am able to foster genuine connections that have led me to more success in my business. For example, I volunteer photography time for different nonprofit organizations and throughout that I’ve met many great people who have introduced me to potential clients as well.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The book The Alchemist by Paul Coelho impacted my entrepreneurial thinking. Being an entrepreneur is not always easy, and this book mentions how. when you are on the right path for yourself, that the universe will work in your favor. I try to remember this philosophy during difficult times. It is important for me to remember that even in difficult times, that the universe is always working in my favor. I think the Alchemist is a phenomenal book for anyone who is looking for some guidance on their business journey.
