We recently connected with Hilary Tobe Mokolo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hilary Tobe, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I have always been an artist from pencil sketches, writing stories, painting, etc. I never knew the path to living through my art and even now I am still figuring a lot of it out. I was always pushed to the typical route when you go to school, become an engineer. During grad school, I got the opportunity to really work my creativity with an artist and that gave me the confidence to journey into what my path has now become. So the idea was instilled from birth but didn’t take form until later in life. It is a grind, especially with something you are really passionate about. It started with a lot of networking and doing work for free to build a solid foundation before you can start getting some kind of compensation. You are putting a lot of hours to structure the business on all ends. You also learn, for most, the only time you will be able to build a team is after you have built your foundation. Most people move in after the house is built rare to find those who will build with you. I have a vision and a mission which I use guide my steps. I don’t ignore realities but I’m not strung up on the numbers right now because I have to have it succeed. If I did I would not have been able to push through the tough times and probably would have made sense to quit. You don’t get what you want in life you get what you have to have and I have to build this reality.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are a full media production house working with clients in industries such as Commercial, Branding, Business, Music, Film, Fashion, etc. We bring your vision to life whatever that may be whether you are looking to tell a story, connect with your audience or create amazing content. We work with a wide range of clientele which allows us to creatively stay sharp.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Our mission is to create a structured black space curated by us where everyone is welcome to come in and experience our creation. Also to curate a space for the younger generations to freely fuel their creativity through programs that will educate them in the skills they want to learn and also give them a space to practice those skills.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Networking has been key for us in these early stages of course we will grow into the digital marketing space. Right now I think there is nothing better to build a strong foundation than word of mouth and face-to-face networking. Doing this and ensuring great quality work with those clientele opens the door to great referrals.
