We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Genevieve Martin Del Campo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Genevieve, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I came up with this idea shortly after having my second child, Isabella. She was a completely different baby from my first child, Jose Jr., so I felt like a new mom all over again; questioning everything I did. Postpartum also hit me harder after having her, I just didn’t realize how bad until family members started noticing a difference. I had a few mom shirts in my drawers that I had gotten as gifts, so I started wearing them. When I put those shirts on, it was a feeling like no other. I felt confident and that I could do and handle anything that came my way. I didn’t know a shirt could make me feel these types of emotions, but I was a proud mom despite having a hard time juggling two kids. It was then that I decided to make my own unique designs for moms everywhere so that anyone who may be struggling like I was, could feel those same emotions and know that they were INCREDIBLE.

Genevieve, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Genevieve and I am Mama to two littles; a six-year-old boy, Jose Jr. (JJ), and a four-year-old girl, Isabella (Bella). They are my why to this brand, and the reason behind the name. I am also a recent graduate of Arizona State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude this past December. This brand is all about being comfortable and staying comfortable while out living life. That is why we make sure our shirts are the softest material and will hold that softness wash after wash. We offer shirts, tanks, mugs, and keychains with designs geared toward moms and dads, and have just recently created a shirt for toddlers. So, we have something for the whole family! Our items have even become favorites for baby shower gifts and I am so here for it! What I am most proud of with this brand, is that it empowers everyone who rocks it.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started this business, I was using heat transfer vinyl. However, it was not long before I started realizing that the vinyl did not hold up in the wash. I started to reach out to my customers and found out the same was happening to them. This broke my heart because this business is not about selling a shirt for a one-time use. So, I decided to look into other types of applications, and determined screen-printing was the best option. It was more of an investment in the beginning, but I have found that it has paid off. Our designs are holding up wash after wash, leading to happy and returning customers!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been pop-up events help around the valley. Being a vendor at pop-ups allows potential customers to see and feel the items for themselves. They can feel how soft the material is and see what each size really looks like. It also allows me to get to know more people and connect on a personal level. I love sharing about how everything they are looking at was inspired by my two littles. I also love seeing the smiles and hearing the laughs of each person as they read our designs.
