We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chris Flick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
This is a great question I think about all the time…
I started playing professionally right out of college then quickly found myself married with 3 kids and sitting behind a desk for 13 years. It wasn’t until a divorce and some deep inner reflection that I got back into music in 2019…
In hindsight I’m glad that my greatest successes are happening now. I have such a deeper appreciation for everything now that I’m a bit older. I don’t think I could have appreciated the ride in my 20’s like I do now in my 40’s.

Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey guys, my name is Chris Flick. 100% of the people in the industry just call me “Flick.”
I’m a session and touring drummer/ Producer in Nashville, TN.
I grew up in a little river-town just North of Cincinnati named Hamilton, OH.
My mom was an elementary school music teacher for almost 40 years, so the bug bit me pretty early.
I started studying music privately when I was 8. I grew up in a large church where I got to hone my skills pretty early on. It was fantastic live music experience at such a young age and I hit the ground running.
I studied at Miami University in Oxford, OH. Fun Fact: I also play saxophone and piano. I can sing, and love to sing harmonies on projects.
Out of college I toured with an acoustic soul powerhouse named Jared Mahone from Columbus, OH. To this day, it’s still some of the best music I’ve played.
In 2004 I got married, had 3 kids, and got “the desk job.”
After a messy divorce in 2017 I re-kindled my love affair with music.
In 2018 I began networking in Nashville with some old contacts, and things just started taking off.
I started managing Twelve3South studios on the project/player/ personnel side and have since played on over 100 Masters.
I’ve shared the stage with some incredible artists…
Lee Greenwood
Randy Houser
T Graham Brown
The War Hippies
The Front Men
Kid Rock
Rayne Johnson
Just to name a few…
In 2021 I joined my now boss Drew Baldridge. In this my 3rd year with him, his single “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” is currently #5 on the Country Radio Chart and #5 on the Billboard Country Chart.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Just proving to myself that I can do anything I put my mind to. I took a long time off from music. It’s never too late to get back into something you’re passionate about.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My ex-wife poked fun at me about getting back into music. Said “It would never work.”
I’ve played the Grand Ole’ Opry 6 times since then, and my new (very supportive wife, Kristen) has been with me every time. It’s amazing what you can do when you believe in yourself and have support from the people you love.
