We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Andrea Fairweather. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Andrea below.
Andrea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
The dream happened. I got a clear vision of it. There was no doubt about what was given to me via a dream. Now what?
How do you execute something that you have never seen, touched or experienced before?
For me it took about five years of procrastination, praying, dreaming and frustration to finally make a move.
I got fed up with feeling undervalued with my last beauty counter job. The cycle was repeating itself. The job before this one caused me to feel not just undervalued but outright robbed. I was encouraged to pitch an idea that at the time I was told they did not have the funds to create it. Yet exactly a few weeks upon leaving that job my fellow colleagues called to inform me that not only were they going to use my pitch but they were giving it a much less qualified colleague and the presentation was a BIG DEAL. That pitch still continues to this day and has evolved into a worldwide position for that company!
It was a gut punch to me. I was shaken to
my core. If a huge company like that saw the greatness of my idea that they just flat out lied to use it then I must have a business power that should be realized.
Not too long after literally being laughed at when I requested a raise by the final beauty counter regional Manager, I was done. That was when I decided to just take a chance, stop overthinking and do what made sense. It was time to completely focus on the creation of what was to become the trailblazing business of the mobile beauty industry.
Andrea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have a performing artist background.
I was always stimulated by colors and I drew as a child.
The results of a dance injury caused me to rethink my future and career path.
I used my dance, acting, visual arts talents and combined them with my business senses to create a different experience within the beauty industry. FAIRWEATHER FACES-Traveling Beauty Services®️ provides on-site beauty/grooming services.
I then became a patented Inventor by creating a color-coded system that guides the creation of my makeup designs: FAIRWEATHER FACES (Traveling Beauty Kits).
I want everyone to know that it was a faith walk. It was an instinctual and arduous process to literally bring to life the vision that was given to me via my dreams. It was an honor to make it a reality that still exists after all these decades.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped us build the reputation of the company was the discipline I learned from my dance and acting training.
Any company is a direct reflection of the Owner. I set the groundwork of consistency and reliability within my team.
I was clear about the company’s vision and a taskmaster on the execution of services.
When you are building your brand you must not ever accept excuses from your team. You have one shot. Do everything you can to get it right.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid.
It shut everything down and brought me to a vulnerable position. I had to rethink my vision, purpose and goals.
I needed a minute to get quiet within my spirit. That minute turned into six months of NO EMPLOYMENT.
Lessons learned:
•Do what will inspire you
•Save and invest your funds (be financially ready for emergencies)
•If anyone is not pulling their weight on the team release them in love
•Surround yourself with positivity (you desire it)
•It does not matter how you start. It matters that you follow your dream.
