Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Baylie Brakebill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Baylie, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
I like to believe that everything happens when it’s supposed to, but now that I’ve opened my business I wish I had done it sooner! Initially, I was worried about all the responsibility that comes with owning my own business, but I don’t want to live my life driven by fear, so this has been a valuable lesson for me. Launching my business was overwhelming at the time; however, with the support of my family and friends, we successfully made it happen and the stress was worth it. I am still learning and will continue to gain insights into both the business and technical aspects!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am committed to delivering a well-planned service, building trust, and creating a comfortable environment for myself and clients.
I believe that trust is key between a client and service provider, especially when it comes to a clients appearance. If I believe a particular service is unnecessary, I will be honest about it. This transparency allows me to perform my job more effectively and strengthens our professional relationship.
I specialize in high-end hair color techniques, such as lived-in color, and hair extensions. I feel like these services bring out my full creativity which shows through my work!
I want everyone who sits in my chair to feel they are in a safe space, whether they choose to read a book or discuss their upcoming travels, etc.
I entered this industry right after high school, drawn by the potential for flexibility. However, I quickly discovered that flexibility was often limited. About six years into my career, I revisited my initial motivations—seeking flexibility and a balanced work-life dynamic. Maintaining time for family, friends, and travel while running a successful business is very important to me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
As the saying goes, consistency is key. Although each service may vary, we always begin with a detailed consultation to ensure we’re aligned. My techniques remain consistent, and I stand by my work. If something doesn’t feel right, I will address it and make necessary adjustments. This goes back to trust, it’s so important!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth is powerful! Once you build strong relationships with your clients, they often go above and beyond to recognize and promote your work. It’s truly amazing, and I deeply appreciate the support of my clients.
