Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lioness TeLaine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lioness, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I started learning the craft as a little girl just by watching old and new films I was passionate about. Films that drew my attention and that were interesting, different, funny, and inspirational, I’d watch them multiple times and study them. I’d study the actors and their techniques. When DVDs were popular, I’d watch the commentary of the film at the end. I loved to hear what the actors, producers, and directors had to say about each production and the making of the movie. It was exciting for me. I wanted to know every aspect. of making a film, so I began to passionately study them on my own as a child. I didn’t know at the time that this passion was instilled in me before birth but I knew it was something special that I wanted to pursue because it made me happy and I had fun doing it.

Lioness, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a film director, writer, and producer based in Dallas, Texas. I studied film in Chicago and relocated to Dallas for more opportunities after school.
Even though I studied film production in school, in the industry, I started as an actor. I played a few main and supporting roles in a couple of independent films before moving into production for myself.
Currently, I am operating a one-stop-shop media and film company focusing mainly on film productions. Our services include video and film production services, script writing, directing, and post-production services such as editing and special fx.
Some of the entertainers we’ve been proud to work with are Gucci Mane, Lil Flip, Blac Chyna, and more!
Our sci-fi film titled “Dynasty The Movie”, starring American renowned rapper Lil Flip is our biggest production to date set to release in the 2nd half of 2024.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As a filmmaker, I can say I learned so much from Studio Binder. It’s a one-stop shop educational content site for all things film! If you’re a novice or a professional filmmaker, or even just interested in learning and getting into film, Studio Binder is a good place to start!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think there may be a challenge for non-creatives to fully understand the journey of a creative because it’s more risk involved. It’s more challenging and it takes an extreme amount of passion and consistency to succeed sometimes. Whereas some of those variables may not exist or are as challenging on a non-creative path. Creatives are often faced with a lack of client consistency and business, slow and inconsistent income from creative projects, free work, unnoticed efforts, and a lack of support. All of these unique variables present themselves on the journey of a creative.
Doing something that emotionally fulfills you, makes you happy and money can be challenging because the economic society is not systemically supportive of that path. We as creatives must forge our paths in the world. We build our tables amongst the others and are accepted by how we contribute creatively.
