We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Adrienne Drake a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Adrienne, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time I wish I would have started my creative career sooner & let me tell you why. Born & raised in Dallas, Tx the ultimate dream of mines was to simply “hustle for what you want & make it out”. As life proceeded, the world was hit in 2020 with a pandemic. Being a natural creator my mind instantly went to creating my own products to sale. As the pandemic cleared, and my graphic design skills got better I decided to prioritize creating graphic tees. In 2021 I made my first $700 during a DFW GLAM pop up festival & that’s when I knew my craft was “FOR THE PEOPLE”! I locked in and started networking to find vendors overseas, more pop ups to showcase my work & that’s when the profit I was making came into play! I started creating graphic tees to fund our annual Back To School Supply Drive. Starting my creative journey sooner would have allowed me to find my passion faster. I’ll be more ahead in entrepreneurship but greatness happens when it’s suppose to! I’m grateful I experience multiple outlets in life & found my passion for self and for the people!

Adrienne, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Owner & Founder of Asidéjourney Aesthetic allows me to empower lives through inspirational graphic designs. Asidejourney is an idealization of my love for community outreach. After years of volunteering with different organizations, I felt driven to create a brand that revealed my infatuation with giving back to my community but with a twist! What sets Asidéjourney apart is that we use our creativity and artistry through graphic design to enhance the quality of life in our community by donating profits to youth through community involvement, & partnerships with other organizations. I’m mostly proud of the discipline and supporters behind Asidéjourney. They continue to keep us relevant with purchasing our graphic tees yearly but knowledgeable to know 100% of the profits is being invested into the community.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing folks wearing my designs. Authenticity purchasing and referring others to do the same. It’s nothing like seeing your works from years ago still being idealized by supporters in the future.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A particular mission that’s drives my creative journey is simply BEING YOURSELF & YOUR AUDIENCE WILL FOLLOW. A lot of times creators have creative blocks which aren’t a joke but once the rhythm of designs start following everything finds its place.
