Toshi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I always say I don’t regret anything in life because I wouldn’t be who /where I am, but there are times I wish I had tried to do more sooner. Growing up, I was dissuaded from many of my creative endeavors because it wasn’t considered a viable career path. When I got older, I decided I wanted to do what made me happy, and I often wish I had done it sooner. I would have had more time and energy to do everything I have set out to do the past few years, be more established in my acting career, and do more with cosplay and mermaiding.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Natosha, but I go by Toshi (Stage name). I fell in love with acting when I was very young and was a part of the theater club and advanced theater courses in middle and high school. I also went on to study theater education in college. Adding on education was the best way to convince my parents to let me study theater/acting. I am a firm believer in healing and expression through the arts and doing what brings you joy. I have been obsessed with mermaids ever since I was a child as well, so as an adult, I decided that I wanted a mermaid tail and would start going to pools with my tail and fins. I’m very proud that I worked through my anxiety and nervousness about wearing a mermaid tail in public because I can enjoy myself doing something I’ve always wanted that some people may view as weird.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Life can not go on without art. That includes architecture, movies/theater, music etc. So support artists.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to be myself, Even if it’s only in the moment while I am engrossed in my art, I feel free.
