We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexia Hoffman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Alexia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As a young entrepreneur who got started at 19, I have always felt a desire to grow and set big goals. When I first entered the real estate world, I set a goal to make $100,000, but I was told my goal was crazy and unrealistic. It was a wake-up call when I realized that my environment wasn’t one that fostered growth and ambition—it was standing in the way of my success.
After changing my environment and setting even bigger goals, I looked back and saw that the real problem was that my goals weren’t ambitious enough to match the life I dreamed of. I pursued roles and titles that seemed like the next step toward success, but they didn’t truly support the life I wanted to live.
When I became a mom, I had a pivotal realization: I craved freedom—both of time and money. The titles and achievements I had worked so hard for weren’t aligned with these deeper desires. The groups and communities I was part of constantly talked about working more to earn more, but they failed to recognize the importance of family time and didn’t address the unique struggles I faced as a young mom to three daughters under the age of two.
This experience led me to create Mom Boss Central, a community that acknowledges and supports the unique challenges of entrepreneurial moms. Looking back on my journey in business and motherhood, I realized the need to envision where I wanted my life to be in 30 years. Instead of chasing goals that seemed like the logical next step, I started setting goals that would propel me toward that ideal life.
My mission now is to help others bridge the gap between their ideal life and the goals they are setting. I want to empower people to set ambitious goals, change environments that don’t support their growth, and align their personal and professional aspirations with the life they truly want to live. By sharing my story and the lessons I’ve learned, I hope to inspire others to pursue their own version of fulfillment and success.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey kicked off at 19 when I swapped a lacrosse scholarship for a real estate career. By 23, I became a broker and owner, and together with my husband, we built a real estate portfolio of over 60 doors in just three years. Growing up in Southern California and moving to West Michigan shaped my path and fueled my drive to create environments that foster growth and ambition.
Nowadays, my focus is on empowering entrepreneurs and women in business through coaching and speaking. I offer one-on-one coaching, workshops, and training programs to help entrepreneurs tackle challenges and reach their goals. As a speaker, I cover topics that help people live more fulfilled like passion, confidence, goal-setting, and work-life balance, sharing my journey and the lessons I’ve learned. I also work alongside my husband in our real estate acquisition and development + construction company with over 15 residential and 4 commercial properties. And yes, I still sell real estate with Hoffman Team Real Estate under eXp Realty, ensuring clients achieve their real estate dreams with top-notch service.
One of my proudest achievements is growing multiple businesses while raising three daughters under the age of two. This experience led to the creation of Mom Boss Central, a supportive community for working moms who are passionate about their careers. Launching my podcast, Mom Boss Central, where I interview entrepreneurial moms, has been a true joy. My mission is to help people set ambitious goals, change environments that don’t support their growth, and align their personal and professional aspirations with their ideal life. I believe success shouldn’t come at the expense of personal fulfillment, and I love helping others find that balance.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A pivotal moment in my journey was when I decided to leave my role as a broker and owner of my real estate company. It was a tough decision because I had worked incredibly hard to get there, and it was a significant part of my identity and success. However, I realized that despite all the hard work and achievement, the role didn’t align with my ultimate goal of having freedom of time, especially with a young family.
Leaving the company felt like a failure initially. It was difficult to walk away from something I’d poured so much of myself into. But deep down, I knew it was the right move. I wanted to focus on my other businesses and my family, and the demanding nature of being a broker and owner was standing in the way. This decision was about growth, not giving up. It allowed me to pursue business coaching, speaking, and creating communities like Mom Boss Central, which align perfectly with my values and goals. In the end, pivoting was a huge step forward in achieving the balanced, fulfilling life I envisioned.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One crucial lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that working harder and longer hours was the key to success. When I first started in real estate, I was convinced that nonstop hustle was the only way to achieve my goals. I set ambitious targets and pushed myself to the brink, often at the expense of my personal life and well-being.
The turning point came when I found out I was pregnant with twins. Balancing impending motherhood with the demands of running a real estate company was overwhelming. I was constantly exhausted and felt like I was failing both at work and at home. This pressure made me realize that my approach wasn’t sustainable. I was working harder, but not necessarily smarter, and it was taking a toll on my health and happiness.
I had to unlearn the hustle culture mindset and embrace a more balanced approach. I shifted my focus from sheer volume of work to strategic actions that aligned with my long-term goals. This meant prioritizing tasks that had the most significant impact and delegating or letting go of others. I also learned the importance of asking for help and setting longer timeframes for my goals, understanding that progress doesn’t have to be immediate to be meaningful.
This shift led me to create Mom Boss Central, a community for entrepreneurial moms, where we support each other in finding that balance between work and family. It was a hard lesson, but unlearning the idea that success requires constant hustle allowed me to create a more fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle. It’s a message I now share with others through my coaching and speaking, emphasizing the power of strategic focus, seeking support, and pacing oneself for long-term success.
