We recently connected with Kari Nissena and have shared our conversation below.
Kari , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’m fortunate in that I got the calling to be an actor at a young age.
Kari , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an Actress, Producer, and Coach for Actors specializing in the business side of the acting biz. Over the years, I’ve worked in Film, TV, Theatre and more. I also have the privilege of coaching actors. Through my company Actor Transformation, I help actors navigate the industry with a focus on online presence, marketing, and mindset.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
The life of an actor is an unusual journey.
On the artistic side of things, it is much more than just memorizing lines and showing up to set. It takes a lot of talent and skill to be able to perform at a high level.
On the business side of things, actors face a lot of inconsistency and unpredictability in the industry. Unlike “normal” jobs and careers with clearer paths and stability, acting involves a high degree of resilience and adaptability to navigate the daily ups and downs.
People that are not in artistic fields sometimes hear the word “actor” and their first thought is A-list celebrities. But there is a whole planet of actors in the business that are known as “working actors” that are seen in film, tv, and on the stage, and their voices are heard in , voiceovers, audiobooks, animated projects, etc. They are not famous. Most are not rich. However, they are living fulfilling and meaningful lives doing what they love.
Actors who truly want to reach the next level in their career, need to focus on all four sections of an acting career: Craft, Connections, Marketing, & the most important part of success … Mindset.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to inspire and support actors in their careers. I always strive to work with wonderful artists who are also great human beings. It is a great joy to see my clients succeeding and following their dreams.
