Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Teresa Hildebrand. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Teresa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving a stable job at UCLA Health to focus on my family and a business was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. As the first Sustainability Programs Manager for UCLA Health, I had a great career, but I constantly felt torn between my professional responsibilities and being present for my kids. The decision to leave was one of the hardest I’ve ever made, but I knew I had to make a change for my well-being and my family’s happiness. I took the leap, left my full-time job, and poured my energy into growing our online business and being there for our two small kids. It was a leap of faith, but it has paid off in many ways. Although the first couple of years were rough. Our business was not growing at the rate we hoped and my husband got sick the year I left my job from the many years of stress in his law enforcement career.
So in 2022, my husband Marc, a dedicated officer with the Los Angeles Police Department for 20 years, faced a similar crossroad. He decided to retire early and join me as a full-time entrepreneur. It was another significant risk, but Marc’s passion for life and performance coaching made the transition smoother. Together, we co-founded and co-hosted our YouTube channel, Modern Leadership, where we help family driven entrepreneurs excel in all the important areas of their lives. I also specifically help mom entrepreneurs like myself reject the notion that they have to do it all to find what’s most important and do that efficiently.
These decisions were driven by our desire to create a life that aligns with our values and allows us to be fully present for our family. They were risks, but they’ve led to a fulfilling journey of personal and professional growth. We now have the freedom to shape our days, focus on what truly matters, and help others do the same through our coaching and leadership.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into the world of life and performance coaching began in a somewhat unconventional way. Before diving into this industry, I worked as the Sustainability Programs Manager for UCLA Health. But as a working mom of two young children, I found myself constantly struggling to balance my work with my family life. The stress and overwhelm caused me to turn to working on my physical health. My husband and I started focusing on improving our health, and eventually, we transformed our efforts into a business.
I decided to take a leap of faith and left my full-time job to focus on my kids and build a business that aligned with our values, passions, and newly found healthy habits. The transition wasn’t easy and it had its ups and downs, but it eventually paid off. It allowed me to fully commit to helping other women like myself, who face the same challenges of balancing their personal and professional lives. I eventually became a life and performance coach, leveling up my skills to help mom entrepreneurs specifically.
My husband Marc, a former first responder, also made a significant shift in his career. After 20 years in law enforcement, he retired early to join me as a full-time entrepreneur. Together, we co-founded and co-host the YouTube channel Modern Leadership, where we provide valuable insights and strategies for family driven entrepreneurs who want to excel in all important areas of their lives.
Our services include one-on-one coaching through my program Focus & Flow and our small group program the Success Pod, helping entrepreneurs prioritize what’s most important, set clear goals, and achieve sustainable success without sacrificing time with their family and themselves. I am also the creator of the C.H.I. Method™️, a framework that emphasizes Clarity, Harmony, and Intentionality, guiding mom entrepreneurs to reject the notion that they have to do it all and instead focus on what truly matters. As part of our services at Modern Leadership, we offer free weekly workshops on YouTube designed to help individuals cultivate effective leadership skills. Our focus is providing practical strategies and insights to empower you to lead with confidence and resilience in both personal and professional settings.
What sets us apart is our real-life experience and the authenticity we bring to our coaching. We understand the unique challenges family driven entrepreneurs face because we’ve lived them ourselves. We provide practical, actionable strategies that not only help our clients grow their businesses but also ensure they maintain a healthy balance with their personal lives.
I am most proud of the transformations we’ve helped our clients achieve. Seeing them move from a place of overwhelm and exhaustion to one of clarity, confidence, and success is incredibly rewarding. Our brands are built on the principles of authenticity, empathy, and empowerment, and we strive to create a supportive community where our members can thrive.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
As a life and performance coach, several resources have shaped my approach to management and entrepreneurship. The most influential book for me was “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey, which laid the foundation for my understanding of what I needed to do to be successful. My favorite book, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, has impacted my approach to habit formation and incremental improvement. It helped me improve my consistency in all areas of my life. “You Are A Badass” by Jen Sincero has also been incredibly inspiring for boosting my confidence in my efforts to grow an online business. Also, “The One Thing” by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan and “The Productivity Project” by Chris Bailey have both shaped the way I coach and help my clients prioritize and manage their time effectively. These resources, along with countless podcasts, essays, and workshops, have collectively helped improve my philosophy of helping mom entrepreneurs navigate their journeys with clarity and purpose.
