We recently connected with Timilehin Dare and have shared our conversation below.
Timilehin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today f you needed to find a key partner or facility – how did you find them, what was the process of striking a deal like and what would you do differently knowing what you know now?
I’m currently working with Onerpm, which is a music label and distribution company, with branches all over the world.
Honestly, they found me and reached out to me. For over a year now, they send monthly releases for their artistes to me, and I decide which artistes I’d like to interview.
It’s been a great process, which has been equally beneficial, and I’m looking forward to working with more labels and distribution companies.
Striking a deal wasn’t an issue honestly, had an interview with them and they told me their plan, it was quite seamless. All in all, just keep being consistent, that’s how got the partnership.
I think they went with me because of the quality of my articles and how in-depth they are. It shows I really paid attention to the artistes and their music.
Just keep doing you and always strive to improve. Also, make sure you’re good at what you do, seek for feedback.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Timilehin Dare and I run a music platform called thatweirdmusic. It’s focused on putting a spotlight on up and coming music acts from all over the world.
I’ve always loved music, so the transition was quite seamless. Started the platform about 4 years ago, improved my writing skills over time. Trying to get it to a higher level right now.
The platform provides in depth analysis regarding music. Just reading the write ups can paint a vivid image of how the song will sound like, before even listening.
We currently run promotions on our instagram page as well, all for a small fee.
We educate up and coming acts on parts of their artistry that might need some work.
I believe what’s sets the platform apart, is how deep the analysis goes, from the lyricism to the production and soundscape, I’ll always try to assess every part of the music we get.
I’m most proud of where I’ve got to, because I honestly started it for fun and for the love of music. It has literally turned into a small business for me.
If you want your music heard and you’re looking for editorial support, just reach out.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to be one of the biggest platforms when it comes to providing editorial support for up and coming acts. I just need more income and time to be honest, to build it up to be better.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building the social media presence legitimately is hard!!!! It takes time and it’s not easy at all. I’m still struggling as it is. Try to put out good and engaging content and run ads as well.
