We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Samuel Wagg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Samuel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
There have been both personal and professional defining moments in my career.
Personally when I was about a year into practice I was about to leave the office to head home one evening. Our receptionist at the time let me know that a patient had added to the schedule. When I got back to my office I saw it was a hall of fame NFL player that had added on. He usually saw several providers when he came into the office but this afternoon it would be just me. We had a great visit and I definitely fought back some nervousness.
This taught me to look at myself in a different light, for years previously treating pro athletes was something I had always aspired too. Not only did it hit me again that our office did this with regularity but that I was doing something I had dreamed of.
Professionally our office has persevered through so much. We had a fire a number of years ago to our main location. This required everyone to be all hands on deck to find solutions and get our patients taken care of. It galvanized our team and forced some expansion. We are a totally different clinic now than we used to be and looking back I know the trajectory would have been much different without that fire happening.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Dr. Samuel Wagg. I’m originally from Maine and grew up in a small town called Madison. I always had an interest in the human body and what you can do to change and improve it. Like so many others that passion served me well in sports and I got to see a lot more of the healing side than I anticipated. Suffering a lot of injuries I became adept at getting my body back to and better than it was before the injury.
This experience in my youth directed me towards a career in physical therapy. However after 300 hours of observation I wanted to be more hands on with my involvement and use my body as well. I pivoted to chiropractic where I pursued by Doctorate. In school I was able to learn from an amazing faculty and many industry leaders.
School gave me an incredible skill set to build off of when it came to changing the body. From my own health journey growing up I had experienced that not many doctors put together every aspect of our health. Most care was focused on a specific system or body part with little to no concern for the rest.
Fast forward to more than a decade later and that is exactly what our clinic, FIX Medical Group does. We curate custom health care plans for our clients. Once we understand a clients current state and where they want to be we are able to make a step by step plan for them to arrive at their destination. We do this utilizing a number of different treatment like regenerative medicine, stem cells, PRP in combination with nutrition, fitness and detoxifying the body. We find a custom plan that meets our patients needs and exceeds their expectations.
The most unique part of our approach is that we seek to partner in health with our clients. It’s imperative that we get to know each of our clients so we can really deliver the results they need. We are proud to offer so many amazing solutions under one roof but the most satisfying part is the results we deliver.
Here are some of the services we provide
-Regenerative Medicine including stem cells, prp and peptides
-RESTART program, our health transformation program that we coach you through for 3-6 months
-Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy
-Body contouring using TruSculpt
I’m most proud of the fact that our clinic is a place you can come to get better. It doesn’t matter what is going on, what you have done in the past or even if we have the direct solution. We are clinic for those committed to getting better to find the help they deserve. We want everyone to live a happy and healthy lives and we will move mountains to make that happen for you.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being willing to continue to grow and expand your skill set. Being a provider and having others trust their healthcare to you is an honor but also a large responsibility. As your knowledge base grows and technology and care changes you will have to be willing to change too. One of the biggest skills I have learned from others is how to effectively communicate. You need to be able to connect with people if you expect to help them change. Learning the difference between talking and connecting while facilitating meaningful conversations has been a game changer.
This goes from a 1-2-1 level into being able to connect with audiences and crowds. Learning to speak so I can share our message and how we can solve problems has become a passion of mine. It’s great to have answers but if others can not see the value in them, it’s not worth anything.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
We have 4 locations in 2 different states and regardless of the setting or events growing our clientele is based off connection. A lot of peoples experience with healthcare providers is very professional and symptom based. We aim to really get to know our patients and build a level of connection that they feel comfortable sharing everything with us. As far as a strategy is concerned I would say we focus on being interested rather than interesting. We follow up with our clients consistently and text many of them daily. Our health is the sum of many factors and we need to make sure that those factors (habits) are leading to the life we seek to live, this takes constant honest communication.
