We recently connected with Laura Bullock and have shared our conversation below.
Laura, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My most recent picture book: Dance with Bella Bear, is a very meaningful book to me.
Working with illustrator Ruth Ramos opened an opportunity to develop other editions of the book. After discussing possible translations, Ruth was able to create an edition in Spanish: Baila con la osa Bella, as well as a collaboration with another professional to create an edition in German: Tanz mit Bella Bär .
A very special kindergarten class in Germany read and enjoyed dancing along to the story. The availability of this book in multiple languages is only due to the hard work and extra effort of Ruth Ramos.
I am so grateful we collaborated on this project together and that Dance with Bella Bear, is available to children worldwide.

Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Laura Bullock and I am an Independent Children’s Picture Book Author. I started in 2016 with my first book: Where Do You Live, Animal Friend? and then in 2017 released my second book: The Traveling Javelinas. Both of these books have won awards and recognition for their beautiful illustrations and rhyming style. I currently have 6 different picture books available.
I enjoy writing stories with a positive message that creates a world of imagination mixed with reality for the reader. My books contain multilayered illustrations along with themes of empathy, making new friends, and helping others.
My greatest joy has been receiving notes from young readers who have learned to read through my books. Hearing also that some of these same readers in turn, teach their younger friends and family members how to read along with them amazes me.
The ultimate goal in why I write picture books, is to inspire children all over the world to learn new things, to be kind to others, and to become lifelong readers.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Knowing that children enjoy my books so much that they insist on reading them over and over again is the most rewarding part of being a Children’s Picture Book Author.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram has been the best place for my business to grow. I have connected with fellow picture book authors and illustrators on this platform more than anywhere else.
My most recent illustrators were only found due to my connections on Instagram.
I also like the word of mouth and sharing there among readers and libraries and independent small bookstores worldwide. It has also resulted in new people purchasing and sharing my books with friends and family that I wouldn’t have connected with otherwise.
