We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Crist recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

Traditionally, you’d call me a “wedding photographer” but thats about the only thing traditional about me! What I love most is crafting and capturing unique elopements in Colorado’s breathtaking landscapes!

Very early on in life I knew that the white dress, 300 guest, reading vows in front of all of those people, big wedding…never appealed to me. And then I realized that there is no “one and only” way to get married.

That realization is the foundation of my mission. I work with couples to create a wedding day that celebrates and reflects their own unique relationship. Whether that’s the quiet intimacy of watching the first light hit the mountains in the morning, exploring their adventurous side by cruising rugged mountain passes in a jeep, or the refreshing laughter that comes from running into a very, very cold alpine lake. I’m there to help create and document their unique wedding day as it is experienced.

By helping couples plan and experience these moments, I hope to inspire others to realize that weddings arent one size fits all and that it is okay to celebrate their love on their own terms, in a way that feels true to them.

Hey there! I’m Kimberly Crist, a Denver-based elopement photographer obsessed with capturing epic love stories in the heart of Colorado’s stunning landscapes.

I help couples ditch the stress of traditional weddings and design an elopement day that’s uniquely theirs. Whether it’s a sunrise ceremony on a mountain peak or a candlelit vow exchange under the milky way, I’m there to document every tear of joy, adrenaline rush, and whispered “I do.”

But I’m more than just a wedding photographer! I’m like your elopement bestie. 😉 I help couples find the perfect location, recommend kick-butt vendors, and help craft a timeline that ensures their day flows flawlessly. So they can relax, soak up the good vibes, and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime adventure together.

What sets me apart? I’m all about capturing genuine emotions and raw connections. Forget stiff poses and cheesy smiles – I want to capture those authentic moments that make your love story unique. And because every couple is different, I tailor my approach to fit their personalities and desires.

I’m most proud of the joy I bring to my couples. Witnessing their love stories unfold and capturing those intimate moments is pure magic. There’s nothing better than getting a teary-eyed email from a couple who says their wedding day felt just like them, and the photos took their breath away.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Every day I wake up SO excited to get to work. While being a photographer is only about 10% of my job, all of the hard work I put into my business makes that time being creative so worth it. When I finally get to spend the day with my couples, that is the most rewarding aspect of being a creative. Watching all of the hard work and unique vision come to life for a couple, allowing them to celebrate such a fun day on their own terms. Creating that, capturing that, telling those stories and sharing that experience with them.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that I’m not the best photographer for every couple, and that is a-ok! I definitely take a more relaxed, stress free approach to planning and photographing weddings. I’m not looking to hike any 14,000 foot mountains over here. When starting out, I wanted to say yes to everything, but over time I’ve realized that making sure I’m a good fit as their photographer, and they’re a good fit as a couple, matters most.
