We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lakonnia Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lakonnia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

I am the owner of Party Time Arts Crafts and more, We first opened our business in March of this year. Our vision for this business was to help provide an environment that people of all ages can enjoy and be creative in many ways. I wanted to create an electronic device free zone that we can escape the pressures of life and tap into a realm of peace, calmness, excitement and creativity. Our mission was to target depression, anxiety, and many other mental enemies with the spirit of creativity! Growing up as a child in a poverty stricken community, and being an only child helped me try to reach a place where those realities, subsided for a little while when I could be creative so with copy paper or any paper, Elmer’s glue, an iron and some crayons I began to create greeting cards for my mother and others. It didn’t necessarily change my reality but gave me a greater perspective on the reality I desired for my life. I am here today because God gave me a spirit of creativity, to help with my walk through many circumstances and helped begin to see my life in a different light! We are Seeking becoming a vendor for children participating in online and chartered schools to be a actual place for them to come and share their create ability as well. I also loved fast food and things that weren’t good for me, I desire to provide foods that are more nutritious and good for our bodies and not what I crave anymore, we create delicious smoothies using only fruit, ice, a splash of real orange juice and a blender and let the foods God created marry together and create wonderful flavors for any palate. I would love to steer peoples thinking away from highly caffeinated drinks that will only end up causing harm to their hearts and organs. I am also a Licensed Practical Nurse of 18 years and researched many non pharmacological ways to fight against sickness and disease and desire to attend to the whole person through super foods God already made!

We create sub sandwiches with fresh vegetables, and fresh breads and meats daily per order and deliver to surrounding businesses as well.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I believe I live a life of pivoting from becoming a nurse to working full-time starting a business and so many other things is really way of life, but a specific instance of pivoting, especially during Business is having to work in the morning and then report to my new business in the afternoons While picking children up from the bus stop and from school and working hand-in-hand with my husband to pivot through different challenges of family and business and career. God has always played a big part in our lives and helping us pivot through different situations and so it is always gone according to plan, no matter how difficult the obstacle, and so my goal is to help other people with the pivoting in life that they have to experience as well.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

One lesson that I’ve had to unlearn in my backstory is I am an entrepreneur by heart and at times I’ve gotten discouraged and even quit in business so I had to unlearn yielding to the feelings of discouragement to the point of quitting, and I’ve had to learn the opposite, which is showing up every day no matter what. I feel that God is giving me these gifts to give to the world and my community around me.
