We recently connected with Ronald Leonard II and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ronald thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If I had to be honest, now I can appreciate the time it took to get where I am and be comfortable & confident in my abilities. If this was some years ago, I bet my answer would be different. Right now I am in a space where I can appreciate the time I spent in college at Texas A&M University-Commerce. There I received my bachelors in Radio & Television & a minor in Theater in media performance in 2016. It was my time to really learn it from a fundamental and technical aspect. I also can appreciate my time after college where I spent my time working freelance and traveling as a videographer and editor. That was my time to get more real world experience and build my own process and way of working. I feel that if I changed either of those periods for myself, I wouldn’t be the man I am today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
While in college I started working freelance for friends and family doing video jobs for them and anyone else that saw my work and liked it. As I grew in the craft I started doing my own larger production shoots with my team as well as doing more production work in the industry. I did production assistance work for HBO, Verizon, Capital One and many more. I have done editorial work remote for clients across the states and Canada. I have traveled doing videography work in Spain, California, Atlanta and of course still working out of home base in the Dallas metroplex.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The biggest hurdle in my recent life has been adapting to change. I got married in 2020 and in October 2021 my son, my first child was born. The next month my father passed away suddenly and it was a very emotional and difficult time. So much change in a year was very stressful and for a while I wasn’t sure if I would go back to doing video production. I had to take a lot of time in therapy and with the Lord and through prayer, he was able to bring me out stronger than I was before and now with a lot more opportunities coming my way.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being proud of the final project is always a reward in itself. I love being able to tell a story especially through my own eyes. When I create a project that really connects with people and gets across the emotions I want, it makes me feel proud of my skills and abilities and makes me want to elevate the next one.
