We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kaylyn Garceau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kaylyn , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
When I decided that I wanted to pursue floral design as a career, I learned everything by trial and error and through practice. I’ve always said that this helped me shape my own creative voice, but I also did things the hard way for a long time because I did not seek out teachers or classes for a long time. Knowing what I know now, I would carve time out to seek mentors or education that can help you set a foundation for your craft or your business. There are so many amazing tools out there with people sharing really valuable wisdom, use them!
Kaylyn , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After almost 12 years working with flowers, I can honestly say, I’m still not over them. This career has been the happiest accident of my life and I can’t imagine a life without flowers. What started out as hobby became my dream career. It has taken me all over the world, introduced me to new people and to new cultures, challenged me, and has given me the opportunity to be a fly on the wall to the most beautiful celebrations of love. It has been a joy.
Whether it’s through a signature color palette, innovative use of materials, or a specific theme, having a recognizable design aesthetic sets us apart. Our clients mean the world to us. We want flowers to be fun and we’ll always go above and beyond to help you feel at ease.
I’m most proud of the client experience we’ve created at True Vine Studio. I love the craft and design, and I’m so proud of what I am able to conceptualize and create, but overall it’s so important to me that clients feel excited and at ease through the design process. We’ve been able to be apart of multiple milestones in clients’ lives because of the relationships we build and that means the world.
Our services include or not limited to weddings, brand events and activations, productions, corporate events, and weekly deliveries. We’re here for all things floral no matter the project!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think being an artist or creative that chooses to monetize their craft is one of the bravest types of entrepreneurship. Being an entrepreneur is already so, so hard. Add to that the deeply personal and emotional experience of sharing your art and you have a job that takes an incredible amount of emotional resilience. It’s hard but I think it is so rewarding, in good times and in bad. I commend everyone on this journey and I think you’re so brave.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey as a florist is driven by a mission to transform emotions and moments into unforgettable floral experiences. My goal is to use the beauty and diversity of flowers to create arrangements that not only enhance special occasions but also bring joy and comfort to people’s lives.
