We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sam Biafore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sam below.
Sam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Certainly, there was a pivotal moment in my professional journey that altered its course significantly. I found myself in an abusive marriage that encompassed every form of abuse imaginable—financial, mental, emotional, physical, and sexual. I met him in the summer of 2012, and despite sensing early on that something wasn’t right, I overlooked the red flags. By late 2013, we had a daughter together, which intensified my determination to survive for her sake.
From the moment I learned I was pregnant, I knew I had to fight not just for myself but for my child’s safety. In the summer of 2015, I made the courageous decision to return to work, diligently saving every penny I could to secure a means to escape. It wasn’t easy; I moved in and out multiple times due to financial constraints. However, by the fall of 2018, I landed a position at Peloton. Here, I found not only financial stability but also a supportive environment where my well-being mattered to my colleagues and superiors alike.
Over the next six months, I managed to relocate from Delaware to Florida, navigating the challenges posed by my ex-husband along the way. This journey taught me invaluable lessons in self-reliance and resilience. It forced me to recognize and heed warning signs I had previously ignored. Standing on my own two feet, I gained a newfound independence that has shaped my professional and personal growth ever since.
Moreover, I’ve learned to listen to my voice and trust my gut. In October 2020, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt compelled to share my story. Opening up about my experiences not only facilitated my own healing process but also resonated deeply with others facing similar situations. Peloton provided me with a platform to speak openly about my abuse and my journey toward healing, allowing me to make a meaningful impact beyond my immediate circle.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that I was unlovable. During the challenging years of my life, I internalized the false narrative that I was destined to be alone, incapable of forming genuine friendships or experiencing reciprocal love. This perception was reinforced by the abusive messages I received, including being told I was a bad mother and that I would never find love again.
It took time and patience to realize that these damaging beliefs were not true reflections of who I am. Through introspection and listening to affirmations, particularly those by Louise Hay, I began to reshape my self-perception. These affirmations helped me cultivate a positive mindset and recognize my inherent worthiness of love and happiness.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have numerous stories that highlight my resilience. During a period marked by constant fight-or-flight responses, there were moments when I felt overwhelmed and contemplated giving up. However, what kept me going was the realization that I had a young daughter who depended on me—a powerful motivator to keep fighting.
At one point, due to the abusive circumstances, I was severely underweight, often forgetting to eat or drink because I was constantly on edge. Financial constraints added to the challenge, forcing difficult choices between paying bills and providing for my child’s basic needs. Despite these hardships, I persisted, determined to create a better life for both of us.
During one particularly trying time, I even found myself in jail, yet I refused to let adversity define me. It took immense strength and patience to understand that the abusive words and actions were about control, not a reflection of my worth.
Through it all, I learned to remain calm amidst chaos and gleaned valuable lessons from each hardship. My resilience and determination to overcome adversity have shaped who I am today, empowering me to navigate challenges with courage and grace.
