We recently connected with Jeremy Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremy , appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
This question has been lingering in the back of mind, these days. With the advent of AI and all the noise of generative art, it’s hard to feel needed as a creative. With music, specifically, it does seem like our role, at least as recording artists, is being hijacked.
What brings me back to center, and reminds me that that I could never worry about AI, is that making music and performing it is immensely fun. For true music artists, you could never take our love for our craft, away from us, no matter how loud AI gets.
While our audiences may dabble in AI for fun, or even as gift to a loved one or professional work, the desire for live and original sounds, songs and compositions will always be there. I know that for me and my work, AI will be used as a tool to facilitate my creativity, and I believe other true artists see it that way as well.
The option to have a “regular job” is always there, doesn’t mean you have to throw away your craft completely. Life is unpredictable and it is better to view it as choose your own path book, with a plethora of options, rather than cut and dry where a job or dream is the only option.
Jeremy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, my name is Jeremy Jones, music artist in LA. I play viola/violin on stage and in the studio, sing and compose music in projects for companies like Coca&Cola, M&M and Lexus, and shows on Netflix.
I also have an artist project under my name Jeremy Jones and LAWDVIOLA, where I produce and perform my own work in multiple fashions. My Jeremy Jones project started off as my soul and pop project, while LAWDVIOLA is where I can experimental and more electronic. I perform around LA and do my sets at venues and private events around the city.
If you’re interested in what I do, please send me an email at jwjsounds@gmail or check out my socials: @jeremyxjones. Cheers!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Self-expression is where I feel the most alive. That is the best part about being an artist. In a capitalistic society, the idea of that freedom in self-expression is frowned upon, in order to maintain business. I understand, and even as a professional artist there is an element of branding. Where I feel it’s different, is in the fact that you are encouraged to be your full self as an artist. This is our biggest job as an artist, because non-creatives look to us to understand complex feelings and emotions. It is our job to stay in self expression, and that to me is very rewarding.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
There are many ways to support your favorite artists, especially in 2024! It’s so easy now to share, comment, like, subscribe, donate, you name it. With the power of the algorithm, you as a fan have all the power to uplift the people who are making your favorite designs, songs, and stories. I think people don’t realize how powerful art is, and take for granted, say, how many phrases and sayings were created by your favorite rapper. Art and artists are the architects of our culture and provide immense value our human ecosystem.
So if you come across a content creator, street performer, director or even comedian that is consistently making your day better, make sure to interact with their art. Even a single like on a post goes a long way.
