We were lucky to catch up with Danny Cano recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Danny thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on would have to be making music as a whole. For me performing music is very personal, it feels like I put all of my heart in soul into it every time I perform. I always want to feel like I give my all to anything I do, to me when someone is coming out to see you perform or support you in anyway you ought to give 110% to your craft whatever it may be. Recently in my band CANO with my brothers and band mates Hauk Heimdallsman, Dylan Cronin, and Devin Fort, I feel I’ve been able to do that for the past year we have been able to garner a loyal following of fans who have seen us perform at places like The Viper Room, Molly Malones, The Mint, Etc. We recorded our last show at Molly Malones and are currently mixing it to release as a live album. We also have released our single “Venice Beach” which is streaming on all major audio platforms. With the recent departure of our lead guitarist Hauk as he has moved up north. The band will still continue on, but I’ve been feeling like I’ve been wanting to perform solo as well and perform more pop based music and piano driven music. I’m excited to see what that will feel like, I’ve been writing to beats and have been composing new songs that are driven by piano as opposed to guitar like in the band. I’m also really excited about the idea of making really powerful pop music that just makes people feel good.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been performing music since I was a young child singing in choir in middle school churches to theater in high school. After that I began playing open mic spots around Los angles as a singer songwriter. After that I formed the band CANO in 2022. I’ve been on a steady trajectory in my music career, and I’m always looking for new ways to push myself creatively which is why I’m so excited about the idea of going towards a new pop music direction as a solo performer. I’ve also worked in the independent film world since 2018 and I’ve gotten to work with so many amazing people its an interesting balance doing both concurrently but I love both and and feel I’ve firmly established myself as a rising performer of many creative disciplines. I was trained formally in theater for both singing and acting which is why now as a musician I have no fear on stage and love playing to all types of crowds. I also have an incredibly strong work ethic due to my upbringing in a middle class household in mid city LA. I’m really interested in signing to a major label to further develop my brand and connect with a new audience aside from the one I’ve garnered in Los Angeles.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I just wish there was some type of mass platform like how there used to be MTV in the past where musicians could get discovered. I feel sometimes there’s too many platforms that it makes it harder to stand out.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Its to entertain people and help people through whatever their going through. I’m a firm believer that art can help change the world.
