We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Noah Layne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Noah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I grew up never thinking about the arts or creative endeavors. My dad was an Accountant and my mom worked in Business. It never seemed like an important choice in life to follow. When I was a senior in high school, I had to take a meeting with my councilor to discuss graduation. She then went on to tell me that I couldn’t graduate since I still hadn’t taken an art class. Of course, I didn’t think anything of it as it seemed to be a waste of time. Going through the options I was like Theatre that should be an easy A no problem. Little did I know that taking a theatre class at the latest possible moment in school changed my life. Even though I was the one senior among a sea of freshmen which was embarrassing enough. I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and give this acting thing a shot. I immediately fell in love with the craft and the way it made me feel. I ended up acting in all the shows my senior year including the musical (They didn’t have enough boys lol). After that year I decided to go to community college and study acting. In between classes in college, I picked up songwriting and taught myself to play piano. I would sneak into the music room even though I wasn’t a music student to practice. Due to those experiences, I was able to become the artist I am today. I don’t believe starting earlier or later would have made a difference. My mom used to say that everything is right on schedule, and I couldn’t agree. I am on the right path and what is meant to will be. All I need to do is keep following my heart,
Noah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Noah Layne. I’m an Actor, Musician, and Singer Songwriter. I started acting my senior year of high school and continued performing in college. In college is when I began to learn music, I taught myself the piano and began songwriting. I’m not someone who is naturally gifted when it comes to singing by any means. Learning to play the piano helped me develop a musical ear.
I went on to do community theatre and then got involved in the independent film scene here in Arizona. All the while I was working on my music. By happen stance I met a mutual friend of my agent TJ Espinoza when I was working at a coffee shop of all places. He introduced me to TJ and then I joined his agency. I’ve had a number of acting gigs here and there most notably working with David Caruso. My biggest triumph has come through my music. So far, I have released two singles that have amassed over 100k streams on Spotify. My two songs “with me” and “Bring It On” have performed better than I ever could have imagined. I’m currently working on a music video for Bring It On. I am excited to share with the world! I also ghost write for notable artists as well as working on my own career. I think the only thing that sets me apart is that I am authentically myself. Everything I write is personal and vulnerable and I take this approach to my acting as well. My goal for my career is not wealth or fame, I just want to make someone feel through all mediums of my art.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
GO OUT AND SUPPORT FELLOW ARTISTS. It’s really that simple I believe. I have a number of friends preforming all across the valley and I make an effort to see and support them as much as possible. Whether it be seeing a show or going to an art gallery. Just make the effort and the arts start to flourish.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I just want to honor myself and who I am. I know what I love, and I know what I want to do which is being an Artist. If I choose not to follow my heart because of things like money or the odds of not succeeding or any other external factor I will never be satisfied. Regardless of what the future holds for me, I will keep choosing myself every day and everything will fall into place.
